Deck the Halls event on Saturday
SHERBURN — There will be a Lunch-n-Learn program beginning at 11 a.m. today at the Senior Center near the City Hall in Sherburn, featuring Christmas games and then a lunch. The meal includes scalloped potatoes, ham, California blend vegetables and Christmas dessert. This is open to all senior citizens in Martin County for free. Crest would appreciate a free-will donation for the lunch.
Hamburger Night is from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the Sherburn Legion Hall. The menu includes a burger, salad and baked beans for $10.
Congratulations to John Brammeier who will turn 90 on Dec. 9. He will be celebrating with family and friends, but would love to receive birthday wishes in a card shower. Cards will reach him at 109 Fred Street, Sherburn, Minn. 56171. We wish you many more birthdays, John.
Condolences to the family of Justin Fitzgerald who passed away recently. He will be missed by family and friends.
There will be a Ham Bingo at 6:30 p.m. (doors open at 5 p.m.) on Thursday, Dec. 5 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont. The event is sponsored by the Trimont Chamber of Commerce.
The Sherburn Theatre will feature Moana 2 with show times at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings and at 4 p.m. on Sunday. They will have a free movie during the day this weekend as part of the Deck the Halls C&C celebration. The free movie is sponsored by the Fox Lake Conservation League.
The Deck the Halls Christmas tree decorating contest and vendor fair will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 7 at MCW High School. Santa is scheduled to appear around 5 to 7 p.m. The St. John’s Lutheran Youth Group will serve a mashed potato and ham supper from 5 to 7 p.m. Those decorating trees may do so from noon to 3 p.m. The Sherburn Lions will serve pancakes from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 8. The vendor show continues from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and tree voting continues also. The winners will receive gift cards from local businesses. This is always a fun event. Plan to attend.
The Sherburn Legion is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. on Dec. 10. All members are encouraged to attend.
St. John’s Lutheran Church ladies’ group LWML will have a guest day at 2 p.m. on Dec. 11 with a program and a dessert lunch. St. John’s will also have an Advent service at 6 p.m. on Dec. 11 followed by a fundraiser supper served by the Youth Group. Their Sunday School service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 15.
The Martin County West athletes are busy this week with Girl’s Hockey at 4 p.m. on Dec. 5 at Waseca; Gymnastics at 6 p.m. at Live Fit in Fairmont vs Jackson; Wrestling triangular meet at 6 p.m. at Maple River; Girl’s Basketball at 7 p.m. in Mankato with Loyola; Boys Basketball at 7 p.m. in Sherburn vs St. Clair and Boys Hockey at 7 p.m. at the Arena in Fairmont vs Waseca. There will be a wrestling invitational at 9 a.m. on Dec. 7 in Blue Earth. The K-2 Concert will be held at 7 p.m. on Dec. 9 at the High School in Sherburn. There will be a Girls Gymnastics Meet at 6 p.m. on Dec. 10 at Marshall Middle School. The Girl’s Basketball team will have a conference game at 7 p.m. vs GHECTML in Trimont, and the Boy’s Basketball team will play at 7 p.m. in MVL at Sherburn High School. The winter break is scheduled for Dec. 23 to Jan 1 with a teacher’s workshop scheduled for Dec. 20.
Other upcoming events include the Sounds of the Season concert and fun activities on Dec. 15 at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont. Santa visits and photos are scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m., and a concert by Glenn Henriksen is scheduled for 6 p.m. (doors open at 5 p.m.). The Red Cross Blood drives will be on Dec. 13 at Live Fit Gym, and on Dec. 20 at the American Legion both in Fairmont. Blood is urgently needed now so give it if you are able.
