MCW to showcase musical this weekend

SHERBURN — There will be a Crest Lunch and Learn program at 11 a.m. today, Nov. 20 at First Lutheran Church in Trimont. A lunch will follow the program. These educational programs are free for any senior citizen in Martin County. CREST appreciates a free-will donation for the lunch.

A Hamburger Night will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, Nov. 20, at the Sherburn Legion Hall. The menu includes a burger, salad and baked beans.

Condolences to the family of Marianne (Mrs. Dennis) Hagen who passed away last week. She will be missed by family and friends.

A Wine Club event will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21 at the Red Carpet in Sherburn.

The Sherburn Theatre will showcase the Martin County West (MCW) school musical, “Anastasia” this weekend. The show is about the long-lost princess of Russia. Performances will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22, and Saturday, Nov. 23. The cast’s final show will be at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24. Tickets for adults and students are $7 and $5 respectively. Students in pre-kindergarten may attend for free.

The Memory Cafe will meet to help caregivers and family members caring for dementia patients, at 3 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 25, at Temperance Lake Ridge in Sherburn. All are welcome.

The American Red Cross will have a blood drive at the Best Western Hotel in Fairmont on Tuesday, Nov. 26, and Wednesday, Nov. 27. Blood drives will be on Monday, Dec. 2. at St. Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont, and at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont. The St. John’s Lutheran Church’s Youth Group will deliver the Christmas Greens residents have ordered in the week of Nov. 25.

The Shop-with-a-Cop program is scheduled for Dec. and those who would like to donate should give or send the donation to the Welcome Fire Relief Association by Dec. 1st. They are helping the Welcome/Sherburn Police Department with the shopping this year. Children of the area are helped to shop for their families. The MCW FFA group will try to deliver the fruit residents ordered on Dec. 2.

The Civic and Commerce Club will have its annual Christmas tree decorating contest and vendor fair on Dec. 7 and 8 at the MCW High School. Those who would like to bring a tree to the contest should register at the Bank Midwest in Sherburn or the Sherburn Nursery by Dec. 3. The Sherburn Fire Department is looking for old pictures of their fire trucks or ambulances from years gone by. Email them to sfd@midcointernet.com They can return the picture if you want.

The U.S. Post Office is recommending the mailing of any packages early to ensure the delivery by Christmas. The last date to mail ground mail is Dec. 18, priority mail is Dec. 19 and priority express mail is Dec. 21 to ensure delivery for Christmas.

The Trimont Firemens Relief Association will have a Ham Bingo at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 5. at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont. The Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center will also be the place for the Sounds of the Season event from 2 to 4 p.m. on Dec. 15 The First Lutheran Church in Trimont will have a Carol Sing at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 1.

Nov. 18 to Nov. 22 is American Education Week. The elementary schools are continuing the Character Strong program with their students. The Nov. trait they will concentrate on is Gratitude. The students learn that Gratitude is “learning to appreciate the things and people in our lives”. We do appreciate the educators, staff, and support personnel in our schools. The Fall Break will be from Nov. 27 to Nov. 29. The athletes will begin the winter sports schedule. Tomorrow, Nov. 21 the girl’s Hockey team will travel to Windom for a 7 p.m. game. On Nov. 23 there will be a scrimmage for Boys Basketball at Windom at 8:30 a.m. The Girl’s Basketball will host the GFW team at Trimont at 7 p.m. On Nov. 26 the Girl’s Hockey team will play at 2:30 p.m. at Luverne and the Boy’s Hockey team will play at Blue Mound at 7 p.m. in Luverne. On that day the Girl’s Basketball team will play at Cleveland at 7 p.m. The Robotics team will compete on Dec. 14 at Granada. The Red Bull Youth Wrestling meets on Monday and Thursday evenings. The Trimont school hosts the Youth Basketball for grades 4 to 6 on Thursdays and the Men’s Basketball from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesdays as part of the CER.
