Movie and school play showing at theater
SHERBURN — Congratulations to the candidates for 2025 City Offices elected in the Nov. 5 election, including Mayor Tucker Schumann, and Councilmen Richard Behne and Ron Beckius. The City Council of Sherburn is scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. on Nov. 18 at City Hall.
A Feather Party with 30 Turkeys and door prizes will be at 7 p.m. on Nov. 15 at the Sherburn Legion. Area residents are encouraged to try their luck at winning a turkey and having a lot of fun.
The Circle of Faith Youth Group reminds that there will be a meeting tonight at 5:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome with supper provided. The WELCA ladies’ group at First Lutheran Church in Trimont will meet tonight at 5:30 p.m.
The Sherburn Theatre will feature the movie, ‘The Best Christmas Pageant Ever’ this weekend, a comedy film with a message. Show times are at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 4 p.m. on Sunday. The MCW school play will be at the theatre from Nov. 22 to Nov. 24. This year they will perform ‘Anastasia’, a musical about the long-lost princess of Russia. Tickets for adults and students are $7 and $5 respectively. Tickets for students in preschool and kindergarten are free.
The Mayo Mobile Clinic will be in Sherburn from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 18 and on Nov. 20 both days. Call the appointment line at (507) 238-8500 and mention Sherburn Clinic.
Besides the City Offices elections, there was an election for the Martin County West School Board on Nov. 5. Congratulations to the new/incumbent members of the school board Laura Borchardt, Jeffery Scholl, Mark Wohlhuter and Darren Thate. The School Board Meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 18 in the Sherburn Elementary School.
There will be a Crest Lunch and Learn program at 11 a.m. on Nov. 20 at the First Lutheran Church in Trimont. These programs are free to seniors in Martin County. A free-will donation is appreciated for the lunch following the program.
The Hamburger Night at the Sherburn Legion Hall will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 20. Enjoy a burger, salad, and beans for only $10. Celebrate the harvest with a burger.
There will be a Wine Club event from 6 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 21 at the Red Carpet. Registration is $20. Join the festivities.
The Red Cross Blood drive will be at Fairmont’s Best Western on Nov. 26 and 27. Make an appointment to help save a life by donating blood. Martin County West Students are practicing for the winter sports now. The CER has many events going on. Check out the newsletter or the school website at www.martin.k12.mn.us or the Facebook page. The Red Bull wrestling has begun, and youth basketball for grades 4 to 6 plays in Trimont (Thursday), as does the boy’s basketball (7-9:30 p.m. on Wednesday.) The Robotics team is gearing up for their competition on Dec. 14 in Granada. The School Play will be held from Nov. 22 to Nov. 24 at the Sherburn Theatre. Fall Break will be from Nov. 27 to Nov. 29.
The FFA has been busy at their Career Development Events where they won second place in Forestry and fourth place in Soils, and at the National competition where the Horse team won a Silver Rank. Congratulations to Evelyn Curtis, Ellie Nelson, Lily Truesdell and Jocelyn Lange. That means they were in the middle one-third of the competition at nationals. MCW is proud of its FFA. The FFA is also working in the community as they work on the charity project Maverick Christmas in Dec.
The Civic and Commerce Club will have a Deck the Halls event on Dec. 7 and 8 at the MCW High School Gym and Cafeteria. Individuals and teams are encouraged to bring a tree and decorate it with a theme in mind. There will also be a vendor fair with many items to sell. Those wishing to bring a tree should sign up at the Bank Midwest in Sherburn or the Sherburn Nursery by Dec. 3. Tree voting will be on both days and Santa will be there on Saturday. There will also be a free movie on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday sponsored by the Fox Lake Conservation League at the Sherburn Theatre. St. John’s Lutheran Church Youth Group will serve supper on Saturday, Dec. 7 and Sherburn Lions will serve breakfast on Sunday, Dec. 8. Sounds like a fun weekend in Sherburn.
