Faribault County feedlot program praised

BLUE EARTH– The Faribault County Board of Commissioners acted on a number of items during its meeting on Tuesday.

“The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) conducted their annual year-end review of the Faribault County feedlot program on March 7,” Planning and Zoning administrator Sara Hauskins told the board. “This was the first time they conducted the review in person since 2020.”

Hauskins told the board the county had met all of the minimum requirements required by the agency.

“The county received a 90 percent score based on non-inspection minimum requirements and had satisfactorily conducted 39 inspections of the 293 feedlots required to be registered for an inspection rate of 13.31 percent, which surpasses the required seven percent” she explained. “In the end the MPCA commended Faribault County for its work in 2022.”

The board voted to approve the report.

Nate Carr, the program administrator for the Faribault County Soil and Water Conservation District, attended the meeting asking for a vote to support submitting the final draft of the Le Sueur River Comprehensive Watershed Management Plan to the Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR).

“In August of 2020, BWSR selected the Le Sueur River Watershed for a One Watershed One Plan (1W1P) planning grant,” Carr reminded the commissioners. “This is the next step in the process of getting the budget request approved.”

The board voted to approve the submission of the final draft.

In other business, the board:

— Approved the training request of Peter Olson of the Public Works Department to attend a Minnesota Inspection Certification Program so he can inspect commercial vehicles operated by the county.

— Voted to grant the request of Jessica Blair of the county auditor’s office to attend the Southern Region of the Minnesota Association of County Auditors, Treasurers and Finance Officers meeting.

— Approved the requests of Gertrude Paschke and Karolyn Bendickson of the county assessor’s office to attend training seminars in order to obtain or maintain their license.
