CREST to host Monday Lunch and Learn

CREST’s Lunch and Learn will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, at the CREST office in Fairmont. This month’s program will be presented by Tari Stradtman from CREST. Stradtman will share pictures of her trip to Kentucky, including Churchill Downs, The Ark Encounter, and the Creation Museum. After her presentation, a delicious lunch of barbecues, calico beans, and a pumpkin dessert will be served. The presentation topics and lunch menu are subject to change. If you want to attend this event, RSVP at the CREST office by contacting (507) 235-3833. This activity is open to all seniors in Martin County, and a free-will donation is always welcome.

Quilt Guild to hold Monday gathering

The Prairie Star Quilt Guild will meet on Monday, Nov. 11, at the Fairmont Evangelical Covenant Church in Fairmont. The Quilt Board will meet at 12:30 p.m., the regular membership meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m., and the evening group will be notified. Three demonstrations of quilt techniques will be presented by members. ‘Sew and Share’ will follow the meeting. For additional information, contact Guild President Elisa Kotewa at (507) 236-3144.

STEAM-Boomwhackers planned

Boomwhackers, a percussion instrument, will be used in a new program for children in grades 4 to 6, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 18 and 19, in Room 210 in the SMEC building. While listening and playing to the rhythm of songs, children will develop an understanding of the melody and tempo of music. The participants will gain an understanding of cords, through songs playing many notes at the same time. This is a group project with all playing. Parents are encouraged to provide their children with a snack and water for class. Registration is required, costs $17 per participant, and is due Nov. 11.

Former hospital staff to meet for lunch

Fairmont Community Hospital retirees will hold their next luncheon at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11 at The Ranch restaurant in Fairmont. Those expected to attend are encouraged to keep in mind the location change, as it is no longer held at the Holiday Inn. Everyone in the community formerly employed with the Fairmont Hospital is welcome and encouraged to attend.
