FAIRMONT - A Celebration of Life and Home Going Service for Barry R. Hilgendorf, 55, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. In lieu of visitation, there will be a Celebration and Blessings Benefit that was already scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Barry was called Home to be with his Lord Tuesday morning, Aug. 19, 2014, at his residence in Fairmont.

Barry Richard Hilgendorf was born July 22, 1959, in Trimont, Minn., the son of Robert and JoAnn (Mueller) Hilgendorf. Barry grew up on a farm near Trimont and spent his boyhood helping many farming neighbors and tending to his livestock. He graduated from Trimont High School in 1977. After high school, Barry farmed with his family and, in 1979, he started working at the Fairmont Veterinary Clinic. For 36 years, Barry worked for the Fairmont Veterinary Clinic and Preferred Capital Management (P.C.M.), where he eventually became the CEO of P.C.M. He was united in marriage to Carolyn "Tina" Leverson on April 14, 1990, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Galena Township, near Ormsby, and they made their home in Fairmont.

Barry continued to farm with his family, and cherished all the times at the farm. He was passionate about farming and God's great outdoors. He believed that all he was given was his to care for and to leave in better condition for the next generation. Barry believed that honesty and integrity were two values to live by. Those principles were applied in every aspect of his life. Barry was active at Grace Lutheran Church, served in the church in many different capacities and considered Grace his extended family. He enjoyed hunting waterfowl and wild turkeys with family and friends. Over the years, Barry was also involved with Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever, Wild Turkey Federation, FEDA Board, Bank Midwest Community Advisory Board, and National Pork Producers Council where he lobbied for Minnesota Pork Producers at a national level.

Those who honor and cherish his memory include: his wife, Tina Hilgendorf of Fairmont; parents, Robert and JoAnn Hilgendorf of Trimont; three brothers, Kevin Hilgendorf of Trimont, Keith Hilgendorf and his wife, Jackie of Trimont, Dan Hilgendorf and his wife, Keri of Fairmont; special cousin (sister), Leah Sandbo; Hilgendorf nieces and nephews, Guy (Missy), Tanna, Garret, Darby, Galen, Blake, Emma, Curtis and Caitlin; mother-in-law, Marcia Leverson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ann and Tom Whalen, Susan and Kent Anderson, Ellen and Eric Larson, Mark and Lisa Leverson, Michael and Jacqueline Leverson, Paul and Karen Leverson, Eric and Nancy Leverson, Sara and Brian Picka; many Leverson nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews; many aunts, uncles and cousins, other relatives and friends.

Barry was preceded in death by his grandparents; sister-in-law, Ann Hilgendorf; father-in-law, Rusty Leverson; and several aunts and uncles.
