FAIRMONT - The races have been set to fill slots on the Fairmont City Council and Fairmont Area School Board, as well as other local races.
Following the close of filings Tuesday, a three-way race has developed in Ward 3 with Jim Zarling, former city administrator, throwing his hat in the ring with Timothy McConnell and Michael Schutz, who filed earlier. The seat currently is held by Joe Kallemeyn, who chose not to run.
In Fairmont's Ward 1, Bruce Peters has challenged incumbent Darin Rahm.
Mayor Randy Quiring is running for re-election unopposed.
The school board has four-way race for three open seats.
Incumbents Myron Moeller and Diane Gerhardt have filed for re-election. Danielle Schutz and Dr. Rufus Rodriguez also have filed.
Current board member Sandy Beckendorf opted not to run for re-election.
In other election races in Faribault County:
Blue Earth Area School Board has drawn some new faces.
Incumbent Sheila Ripley filed last week and she has been joined by Shawna Barnett of Blue Earth, Amber Patten of Winnebago, Sara Hauskins of Blue Earth and Lori Frisk-Thompson of Blue Earth.
There are four open seats, now held by Ripley, Jesse Haugh, Mary Eckhardt and Terry Cahill.
Blue Earth City Council is now a five-person race after Marty Cassem, Travis Fenske, and Les Wiborg filed. Filing early were incumbents Russ Erichsrud and John Gartzke.
There are three open seats, held by Erichsrud, Gartzke, and Chelsey Haase.
Winnebago City Council is short one candidate. Incumbent Jeremiah Schutt has applied for the mayor's seat. Incumbent Scott Robertson has filed for a council seat.
There are three seats open: the mayor position currently held by Schutt, and two council seats currently held by Robertson and Jonathan Weerts.
