FAIRMONT - Fairmont Area School Board member Sandy Beckendorf informed her fellow board members Tuesday that she will not be running for another term. She cited personal reasons for her decision.
"I love this job, but I think it's time for somebody else," she said.
She served for three years on the Ceylon board, followed by 14 years on the Fairmont panel when the districts consolidated.
"We had seven buildings and the Ceylon building when I got on the board. We've come a long way," Beckendorf said.
She has served as chairman of the board as well as board liaison on every school committee.
"It's all for the kids," she said.
Beckendorf's decision not to run results in a four-person race for three seats on the board. The slate of candidates on the Nov. 4 ballot includes Dr. Rufus Rodriguez, Danielle Schutz, and incumbents Myron Moeller and Diane Gerhardt.
The board approved contract settlements for crossing guards, the computer specialist and title and supervisory aides, resulting in salary increases of 20 cents per hour for each of the next two school years.
Lee Stewart's position as manager of information systems was changed to a salaried position of $55,000 for 2014-15 and $56,100 for 2015-16.
David Paschke was hired as a technology consultant for the next school year at a maximum of $4,000.
Kiesha Glienke was hired as manager of the Performing Arts Center and as a media technician assistant for a block of time not to exceed $20,000 in salary, including fringe benefits.
In other personnel matters, the board accepted the resignations of Kim Paschke, intervention specialist, and Amy Pierce, Title 1 aide in the elementary school.
