WALKER - Bruce Fredrick Kastning, age 88, of Walker, Minn., formerly of Fairmont, Minn., went home on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, at the May Creek Senior Living Campus in Walker, with his family by his side. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at Fieldon Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Lewisville, Minn., with Pastor Wade Daul, officiating.
Military honors will be accorded by the Lewisville Honor Guard following the service at the church. Inurnment will be in Fieldon Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Lewisville. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Bruce was born July 23, 1926, in Fairmont, the son of William and Hazel Kastning. He grew up in the Fairmont area and graduated high school from Welcome High in 1944. Bruce joined the U.S. Army in 1944 and served in WWII. He was very active in the Liberation of the Philippines. Following the service, he graduated from drafting school in Chicago and spent 25 years owning and operating Kastning Construction. The remainder of his career was spent in various areas of construction sales and management. Bruce met Deloris Pahl and they were married July 28, 1950. They spent 64 years nurturing their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Bruce was an avid hunter and fisherman. He went on numerous Canadian fishing trips and enjoyed an annual deer hunting trip with his grandchildren at his farm by the river in Amboy, Minn. Bruce joins his family that went on before him, who include his parents, William and Hazel; brothers, Wayne, Bob, and Marlin; and one sister, Laurie Jurgens.
Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory include: his wife, Deloris of Walker; daughter, Deb and husband, Pat Hassing of Winnebago; son, Wayne and his wife, Pat Kastning of Walker; grandchildren, Heidi Denn of Madelia, Ali Hassing of Jamestown, N.D., Skylar and his wife, Whitney Kastning of Walker, and Tanner Kastning also of Walker; great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Denn of Luverne, Austin Denn of Madelia; great-great-grandchildren, Brantley and Sophia Swenson of Luverne; sisters, Phyllis Going of Boulder City, Nev., Maggie Bishop of Homeland, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Mary Lloyd of Hurricane, Utah, and Annie Kastning of Windom, Minn.; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Memorials are preferred to the Martin Luther High School Scholarship Fund, Northrop.
