FAIRMONT - A Celebration of Life service for John M. "Moose" Welchlin, 64, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont.
John passed away Sunday morning, Aug. 10, 2014, at the Fairmont Hospital Hospice Program. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and will continue one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
John Martin Welchlin was born Feb. 15, 1950, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Milton and Lila (Milbrandt) Welchlin. John married Lee Ann Voss on July 17, 1971, in Lakefield, Minn., and they made their home in Fairmont. John was the founder of Welchlin and Associates. He was the past owner of the Fairmont National Agency for 26 years. He was the past president and board member for the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (Fairmont Chapter), past co-chair of the Minnesota State Membership of National Association of Life Underwriters. He was also on the General Agents Advisory Board with Security Mutual Life of Lincoln, Neb. John served on the Fairmont Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years and was the past president and board member of the Fairmont Fire Dept. Relief Assoc. (14 years) where he was responsible for investing money for the Firefighters pension plan. He was the past president and founder of the Fairmont Chapter for "Let's Go Fishing with Seniors." He was a mentor with the Fairmont Area Kinship program for several years and enjoyed coaching Fairmont Middle School boys and girls basketball teams for eight years. He also coached Little League baseball for several years.
He is survived by his wife, Lee Ann Welchlin of Fairmont; son, Tyson Welchlin of Los Angeles, Calif.; daughter, Shannon Vaske and her husband, Ryan and children, Emma and Maybel Vaske, all of Grey Cloud Island, Minn.; mother, Lila Welchlin of Fairmont; sister, Linda Welchlin of Fairmont; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Roger and Carol Voss of Fairmont, Daun and Marv Kaufmann of Lakefield, Craig and Joanie Voss of Lakefield; other relatives and many friends.
John was preceded in death by his father, Milt Welchlin and his parents-in-law, Arlo and Gloria Voss.
Memorials are preferred to the Let's Go Fishing program or the Fairmont office of the United Hands Hospice.
