FAIRMONT - The Rodgers and Hammerstein classic "Cinderella" will be performed all this week by Civic Summer Theater at the Fairmont Opera House.
"It's the original version, what a lot of people refer to as the 'Lesley Warren' version," said Civic Summer Theater director Cliff Jahnke. "You'll hear all the songs from the TV special, we've even rented the full orchestration music score for the show."
Most everyone is familiar with the story of Cinderella, the girl neglected and ordered around by her stepmother and stepsisters, who gets to go to the Prince's ball with thanks to her Fairy Godmother.

"We've done some 'magic' things for the transformation," Jahnke hints. "We've got a great cast of about 30 people. We have several family units in this year. The Shoens, Shawn Shoen and his three sons, and we have a three-generation family: Marlene Ditzler, her daughter Christi Redinus who plays one of the stepsisters, and her daughter Paige Redinus. We also have people who have come from areas such as Truman and Martin County West to participate."
Another special aspect of the play is the Grand March that will take place before each performance. The audience is encouraged to attend in their best "royal" attire and participate in the Grand March that begins at 6:45 each evening. Children will also have photo opportunities with some of the cast members after the show.
The title role of Cinderella is played by Courtney Guetter, and Jake Helmstetter is the Prince. Megan Heller is the stepmother, and stepsisters are played by Christi Redinus and Tamarae Schmidt. Alaina Helmstetter and Jay Schmidt play the King and Queen, and the Fairy Godmother is played by Becky Guetter.
The play opens tonight and runs through Saturday, with performance time at 7:30 p.m. Adult tickets are $12 and children and student tickets are $6. Tickets are available for purchase from noon to 1 p.m. and starting at 6 p.m. each evening at the Opera House.
