BANCROFT, Iowa - The North Union Warriors baseball team split games during split doubleheader action on Thursday in Bancroft, Iowa.
The Warriors downed North Iowa 8-2 in the opening game, before losing 6-3 to Estherville-Lincoln Central in the nightcap.
Corey Vaske pitched the complete game in the Warrior victory, allowing just two runs - one earned - on nine hits, striking out 10 and walking one.
At the plate, Vaske also helped his own cause, going 2-for-4, including a double and a two-run home run.
Colin Runksmeier went 1-for-4, scoring on Vaske's home run, in addition to collecting an RBI.
Cody Runksmeier also had one hit in the game, driving in a pair of runs for the Warriors.
Braden Ortman delivered a bases-clearing single for three RBIs for North Union.
Noah Paulson pitched the complete game for North Iowa, allowing eight runs on six hits, striking out four and walking four to absorb the loss.
ELC then denied the Warriors the split doubleheader sweep by doubling the score on North Union, 6-3.
Despite the Warriors scoring three runs in the second inning, the Midgets came back with a five-run sixth inning to take the win.
Colin Runksmeier pitched all seven innings, allowing six runs - one earned - on eight hits, striking out eight and walking three to take the loss.
Offensively, Colin Runksmeier went 3-for-3 and drove in two runs, while Cody Runksmeier, Alex Krantz, Logan Hellman and Carter Engelby each added a hit.
Cody Runksmeier, Hellman and Engelby all scored for North Union.
Trey Jacobson and Riley Strenge each went 2-for-4 at the plate for ELC in the win.
Stenge pitched all seven innings to earn the win.
North Union (3-5) plays host to Sioux Central in a 5:30 p.m. game today in Bancroft, Iowa.
