WASECA - Class AA, No. 3-ranked Fairmont extended its winning streak to 17 in a row by outslugging the Waseca Bluejays, 15-8, during South Central Conference baseball action Tuesday at Tink Larson Field in Waseca.
Luke Becker drilled his seventh home run of the season - a solo shot - to snap an 8-all tie in the top of the sixth inning before the Cardinals erupted for six more runs in the seventh.
Jack Waletich, who went 3-for-5, delivered a bases-loaded triple in the seventh to widen Fairmont's lead to 13-8. Waletich finished with a game-best five RBIs and scored two runs.
Becker also hammered a two-run double in the third inning to finish 2-for-4 with four RBIs.
Spencer Chirpich, Tyler Tennyson, Nathan Gillis and Parker Monsen each generated two hits to the Cardinals' 15-hit performance. All four players crossed the plate twice, with Chirpich and Tennyson driving in one run each.
Ben Abel and Cole Emler each went 1-for-2, with Abel collecting two RBIs and scoring once, while Emler crossed the plate twice.
Matt Lytle allowed four earned runs on six hits, walked three and struck out one in 4 2/3 innings of relief to net the win for Fairmont.
Gillis started on the mound, giving up four earned runs on three hits, while walking three in 2 1/3 innings.
Fairmont (17-1, 8-1 SCC) travels to St. James on Thursday.
