FAIRMONT - Fairmont's lumber awoke from its late Saturday morning slumber during Game 2 of the Cardinals' softball doubleheader against the St. Peter Saints.
Micaela Gochanour, Allison Moeller and Tieryn Arens combined to collect an incredible 12 hits in 13 official at-bats, including four for extra bases, to help Fairmont rally for a 10-8 Game 2 triumph to salvage a South Central Conference split decision at Cardinal Park.
Ace hurler Carolyn Conlon recorded 13 strikeouts without issuing a walk in tossing a four-hit complete game to steer St. Peter to a 4-3 Game 1 victory.

"Normally, we make a lot of contact at the plate, but beside (Courtney) Guetter and Fitz (Abby Fitzgerald) in the first game, our bats must have still been asleep," Cardinal head coach Terry Ehlert said with a chuckle.
After Guetter and Fitzgerald combined equally for Fairmont's four hits in Game 1, with Guetter scoring twice and Fitzgerald doubling and tripling to drive in all three runs, Gochanour went 5-for-5 with three runs scored and one RBI to trigger the Cardinals' 18-hit avalanche during Game 2.
Calli Sizer belted a two-run home run to stake St. Peter to a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth before Kayla Lardy produced her second RBI single of Game 2 in the top of the fifth to inch Fairmont within a run. Aly Eversman, who had walked, scored.
Conlon's triple, followed by Emily Carpenter's RBI double and Sidney Welp's single then extended the Saints' margin to 7-4 in the last of the fifth.
Moeller delivered one of her four hits - an RBI double - during Game 2's top of the sixth to whittle Fairmont's deficit to 7-6. Gochanour drilled a one-out single before Moeller deposited her run-scoring two-base hit. Moeller later scored when Aly Eversman's fly ball was dropped.
Arens, who went 3-for-3 in Game 2, set the table for the Cardinals' pivotal four-run top of the seventh. The left-handed hitting catcher hammered her second triple of the outing before scoring the tying run on Guetter's RBI infield hit.
Guetter later scored the go-ahead run on Gochanour's sharp single back through the box before Gochanour crossed the plate on Kristen Campe's RBI single to center. Campe then motored all the way home on Moeller's RBI triple to deep right-center for a 10-7 edge.
Arens then displayed her defensive skills in the home half of the seventh. After Conlon led off with a single, Arens made a stretched-out diving catch of Carpenter's bunt before pegging a strike - from her knees - to first base for a clutch double play.
"That was an athletic play to get two (outs) for us and protect the lead," Ehlert said in reference to Arens' late defensive gem.
Welp and Val Bresnahan each followed with singles before Welp scored on a wild pitch to slice the Saints' gap to 10-8, but Cardinal right-hander Aly Eversman slammed the door shut by getting a groundout to seal the two-run victory.
Eversman allowed eight runs - only three earned - on nine hits, and walked two in seven innings to notch the Game 2 win.
Lardy and Guetter each added two hits to the Cardinals' 18-hit effort.
Sizer went 3-for-3 with a homer, a double and two RBIs for the Saints, while Welp went 3-for-4 with three runs scored in Game 2.
