Grace Schwager

SHERBURN - A Celebration of Life Service for Grace Schwager, 103, of Sherburn, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sherburn, Minn., with Rev. Steven D. Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Sherburn Cemetery in Sherburn, Minn.

Grace was called to her eternal rest on Saturday morning, April 19, 2014, at Lutz Wing of Mayo Health Systems in Fairmont, Minn. Visitation will be 9:30-11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sherburn. Messages of sympathy may be sent to the family on line at www.kramerfuneralhome.com

Grace Wally Brolsma was born Feb. 27, 1911, to Herman and Josephine (Faber) Brolsma at Kenosha County, Silver Lake, Wis. They later moved to a farm in Martin County, Minn. Grace attended school in Triumph-Monterey. From 1930 to 1935, she was a sales clerk in the Ready-to-Wear department of Johnson Mercantile Store in Sherburn. On April 7, 1935, Grace was united in marriage to Merlin Schwager at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sherburn, Minn., by Rev. H.W. Neunaber. After their marriage, they lived in Sherburn, where Grace worked as a telephone operator and later worked as a secretary for Central Telephone Company until her retirement in 1976 with 25 years of service. Merlin died on May 30, 1998. She continued living in her home in Sherburn until recently moving to Temperance Lake Ridge Assisted Living in Sherburn. Grace was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, taught Sunday School teacher and was the organist for many years. She liked to listen to music and enjoyed playing cards and going to the Cup 'N Saucer Caf for coffee with her friends.

She is survived by her son, Keith Schwager of New Ulm, Minn.; two granddaughters, Tami (Bradley) Beckman of Apple Valley, Minn., and Sandi (Randy) Sweeney of Blaine, Minn.; four great-grandchildren, Trevor, Leigha, twins, Brady and Troy Beckman; two sisters, Donna Welsh of Cadillac, Mich., and Charlotte Wieben of Farmington, Minn.; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merlin Schwager; daughter-in-law, Marlys Schwager; brother, Harry (Toni) Brolsma; sister, Jeanette (Wayne) Grill and other relatives.

Grace's family would like to give a special thank you to Pastor Wilson, Norma Brolsma, Temperance Lake Ridge Assisted Living and the Lutz Wing for their care and concern given to Grace.
