WINNEBAGO - Raymond G. Ehlers, age 82, of Winnebago, died Sunday, April 13, 2014, at St. Luke's Care Center in Blue Earth. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2014, at Dikkers' Hall Parker Oaks in Winnebago, with Rev. Durene Cornell, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Dikkers' Hall Parker Oaks, 211 6th St., in Winnebago.

Raymond Gene Ehlers was born Aug. 24, 1931, in Fairmont, Minn., to Ira Clifford and Lucile Edna (Personius) Ehlers. He was raised in the Fairmont and Winnebago area, helping his father farming and raising horses. He married Betty Anne Winch on July 31, 1950, at the Baptist Parsonage in Winnebago. He worked for Leon Oliver as a farm hand from 1948 to 1958, the City of Winnebago Water Department from 1966 to 1976, Electro Craft from 1979 until its closing in 1986, and Crown Fixtures up until his stroke in 1989 when he retired. During his retirement, he worked part-time for the Fairmont Sentinel. Raymond loved to talk and share his stories about his farming life. He loved taking his family camping and fishing. He loved the outdoors and for a brief period owned his own landscaping business.
He is survived by his daughter, Julie Kay (Brian) Louks of Owatonna, Minn.; daughter, Jan Marie (William) Reineking of Winnebago, Minn.; son, Jerry Dean (Dot) Ehlers of Wendell, N.C.; sister, Ruth McGowan of Fairmont, Minn.; sister, Marilyn Ivers of Cherry Hill, N.J.; sister, Eunice Stefanski of Fairmont, Minn.; brother, Robert Ehlers of Bay Port; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; son, Jeffrey; brother, Roger; great-granddaughter; one niece; and two nephews.
