MESA, Ariz. - Harvey Gene Engelby, 75, of Mesa, Ariz., passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 23, 2014, in Mesa, Ariz. A memorial service was held March 25, 2014, at Tower Point Resort Ballroom in Mesa, Ariz.

Harvey was born Feb. 17, 1939, in Buffalo Center, Iowa, to Melvin and Edith (Olson) Engelby. He graduated from Rake High School in Rake, Iowa, and continued his education at Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa, and Lee's Barber School in St. Paul, Minn. Harvey proudly served our country in the U.S. Army from 1962-1968. For six years, Harvey was first-class barber at the legendary Radisson Hotel in Minneapolis, Minn. At this job, he also met the love of his life Carol (Martin) Engelby whom he married on Feb. 26, 1966, at Grace Lutheran Church in Owatonna, Minn. In 1971, he moved to Fairmont, Minn., and opened his own barber shop called "Harv's Barber Shop" in the former Savings and Loan building until 1984. He changed careers and went to work for Armour/Fairmont Foods from 1985-2008. After 38 unforgettable years and raising three boys in Fairmont, they retired to Mesa, Ariz., where Harvey and Carol had many good times at Tower Point Resort. He was a member of the Squires and the American Legion. Harvey was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Mesa, Ariz.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; his sons, Timothy (Cori) of Omaha, Neb., James (Kim) of Anaheim, Calif., and Daniel (Katy) of Andover, Minn.; grandchildren, Katie, Erick, Jameson, Piper and Paxton; his cousins, Julie and Bennett Quamme; nephew, Paul (Chris) Engelby; sisters-in-law, Helen Conlon and Ruth Engelby; brother-in-law, Don (Sue) Martin; as well as many close friends.

Harvey was preceded in death by his loving parents; his brother, Perlon; along with his aunts and uncles.
