FAIRMONT - Graveside services for Donald A. VonBank, 71, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2014, at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Armstrong, Iowa.
Donald passed away Monday, March 17, 2014, at his home in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is handling the arrangements for the family.
Donald Albert VonBank was born July 11, 1942, in Armstrong, Iowa, the son of Albert and Gertrude (Grabinowski) VonBank. He graduated from Armstrong High School in 1961. He married Narda Colton from Fairmont and they later divorced.
Don was the lead singer and guitarist for the Trembles in the early 1960s. He was a member of the Chain of Lakes Sports Car Club and raced in the IceKhana with his corvette and won the event several consecutive years. He was also involved with the Sertoma Club and the Fairmont Jaycees. Don worked at Mocols, Red Owl Grocery Store and was a supervisor of Southwestern District of Minnesota for the Minneapolis Star Tribune. He then started VonBank Realty and Insurance from 1970 until retiring. He also worked as a Security Guard for Fairmont Foods, retiring in January of 2014.
He is survived by five children, Dion VonBank (Kris), Donna Koch (Steve), Dawn Bergk (Jerry), Dale VonBank (Bonnie), Darci Splinter (John); 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; ex-wife, Narda VonBank; sister, Darlene Reece (Jack); brother, Earl Dean VonBank (Betsy); nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Gertrude VonBank; and one brother, Stephen VonBank.
