FAIRMONT - Funeral services for Helen M. Potthoff, 82, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 24, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Burial will be in Harrison Township Cemetery near Swea City, Iowa.

Helen passed away Thursday morning, March 20, 2014, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Fairmont are in charge of the arrangements for the family.

Helen Margaret (Bentele) Potthoff was born June 30, 1931, in Wesley, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Sophia (Kutschara) Bentele. Helen grew up in Swea City, Iowa and was united in marriage to Donald E. Potthoff on Sept. 12, 1948, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Swea City. She then graduated from Swea City High School in 1949. After her graduation they lived in Bancroft, Iowa for 1 1/2 years before returning to Swea City. In April of 1953, they moved to Fairmont. Helen worked for the Welcome Fertilizer Plant for eight years and then two years at the Fairmont National Bank before getting a job at Fairmont Wholesale. Helen worked herself up to office manager for Fairmont Wholesale where she worked for 40 years before retiring in April of 2002. Donald passed away in July of 2011. Helen was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the church circle. She was an avid reader, played the organ and enjoyed traveling and camping with Don. She is survived by one sister, Susan Dontje and her husband, David of Forest City, Iowa; one brother, Harold Bentele of Truman, Minn.; sister-in-law, Doris Bentele of Hibbing, Minn.; six nieces, six nephews and their families. In addition to her parents, Frank and Sophia Bentele, and her husband, Don, Helen was also preceded in death by her brother, Paul Bentele; sister-in-law, Delores Bentele; two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Helen and Garbant Wibben and Mary and Gerald White.
