SHERBURN - A Celebration of Life service for Delbert L. Petersen, 85, of Sherburn, Minn., will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2014, at Kramer Family Funeral Home Chapel in Sherburn, Minn., with Pastor Steven D. Wilson, officiating. Military honors by the Thomas P. Saxton American Legion Post 356 and the Sherburn Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8261 will be at the funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date in the Sherburn Cemetery, Sherburn, Minn.

Delbert was called to his eternal rest on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 27, 2014, at his home in Sherburn, Minn. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Kramer Family Funeral Home, Sherburn and one hour prior to the service Monday also at the funeral home. Delbert LaVerne Petersen was born Dec. 8, 1928, in Estherville, Iowa, to George and Emma (Harris) Petersen. He received his education in Canoga Park High School graduating with the class of 1946. On March 21, 1951, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Shover at the First Presbyterian Church in Alpha, Minn. Delbert served in the U.S. Army, serving as a mechanic until his honorable discharge. Delbert was baptized in 1956 with his son, Keith. They made their home in Sherburn where Delbert was employed as a mechanic for Breen and Swanson John Deere, D and J Transfer, Fairmont Ford and Chesley's-Westman Freightliner until his retirement. Delbert was a life-time member of the Sherburn Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8261 of Sherburn. He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, the Minnesota Vikings, the Minnesota Golden Gophers basketball, and Minnesota-Iowa wrestling. Most of all caring for Phyllis was very important to him.

Survivors include his loving wife, Phyllis Petersen of Sherburn, Minn.; son, Keith (Mary) Petersen of Northfield, Minn.; daughters, Linda Porter of Springfield, Mo., and Diane Thompson (Ron Greenside) of Jackson, Minn.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Floyd (Fran) Petersen of San Martin, Calif.; sister, Marjorie Rolfson of Austin, Minn.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Delbert was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Leila Henley; brothers, Pete, Kenneth, Richard, Roger, Russell and Gordon Petersen; and other relatives.
