SHERBURN - A Mass of Christian Burial and Polka Mass for Harold C. Schweiss, 71, of rural Sherburn, Minn., and formerly of Fairfax, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Sherburn, Minn., with Father Brian Sutton as Celebrant and Father Charles Quinn as Con-Celebrant. Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery in Fairfax, Minn.
Harold died suddenly on Wednesday morning, Jan. 29, 2014, at his home in rural Sherburn, Minn. Visitation and a time of sharing memories with the Schweiss family will be held from 4-8 p.m. today at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Sherburn and one hour prior to the Mass in the Parish Center in St. Luke's Catholic Church on Tuesday. Harold Charles Schweiss was born March 2, 1942, in New Ulm, Minn., to Alexander and Christina (Homan) Schweiss. He graduated from Hector High School, Hector, Minn. On June 21, 1966, Harold was united in marriage to Mary Stoeber of Cogswell, N.D., at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax Minn. They farmed in the Fairfax area until 1973 when they purchased Terfehr Mfg. of Ceylon, Minn., where he continued to manufacture the product he purchased plus the products he designed. In 1978 they purchased the "old hemp plant" at Sherburn, Minn., and continued to manufacture his products. In 1999, the business was sold but during retirement he continued to "tinker" with new ideas. Harold was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Sherburn Council #8289, the 4th Degree Knights of the Wells Assembly. He greatly enjoyed riding his three-wheel motorcycle and belonged to the Prairie Riders Cycle Club of Minnesota and Iowa. Harold was a Stine seed dealer. He raised horses and other animals at his rural farm home. When he could, he enjoyed traveling, going to casinos, deer hunting, playing cards, dancing, especially the polka, shaking dice, and going to coffee to share his knowledge promoting health and wellness.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Schweiss of rural Sherburn; daughter, DeLaine (Wade) Krenz of Fairmont; son, Darren (Kathy) Schweiss of New Prague; daughter, Desiree (Troy) Jensen of rural East Chain; daughter, Dynette (Jeff) Goodmanson of Lino Lakes. Harold was a proud grandfather to Duane (Sarah) Cox, Tyler Krenz (fiance, Hannah), Preston Krenz, Sara Krenz, Christopher Krenz, Jesse Schweiss, Cortney Schweiss, Tristan Jensen, Mariah Jensen, Tayla Goodmanson, and Ryan Goodmanson. He also is survived by brothers and sisters, Theresa (Bud) Spaeth of Morgan, Gena Hanson of Hutchinson, Juliann (Ray) Brooks of Warsaw, Mo., Juliette (Leon) Weber of Winthrop, Lawrence (Sue) Schweiss of Fairfax, Aggie (Mark) Mattes of Winthrop, Mike (Julie) Schweiss of Fairfax, Leo (Cindy) Schweiss of Fairfax, David (Cindy) Schweiss of Hutchinson; sister-in-law, Clara (Arnie) Berscheid of Grey Eagle; several nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister at birth.
Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers to St. Luke's Catholic Church, or Food for the Poor Inc., Sacred Heart Haiti Missions Inc., and Fox Lake Conservation League Inc.
