TRUMAN - Edwin Petersen Jr., age 83, of Truman died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at Lakeview Health Services Care Center in Fairmont. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Truman, with Reverend Nathan J. Rusert, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Truman.
Visiting hours will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Zaharia Family Funeral Home in Truman, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
Edwin was born Dec. 6, 1930, in Nashville Township, Minn., the son of Edwin F. and Leona M. (Hartwig) Petersen. He was married to Violet R. Nelson on Jan. 28, 1950. Raising a family of five sons, he worked for several surrounding areas farming the land. Edwin took great dedication to his horses going trail riding, while other life passions included collecting guns and toy tractors. On Jan. 10, 1978, he married Loretta Mathwig. Both set on an adventure to live in Arizona where Edwin worked as a groundskeeper. The next year, they returned to live in Estherville, Iowa, where he worked at Estherville Paint and Glass. Following, they moved to Sedalia, Mo., for the next six years. Edwin then was employed at Waterloo Industries in 1985, where he would return to the family farm in Truman.
He is survived by his sons, Doug (Brenda) Petersen of Dunnell, Minn., Darrell Petersen of Fairmont, Daniel Petersen of Atkinson, Ill., and Tim (Roxy) Petersen of Hanover, Minn.; a sister, Marvel Meyer of Truman; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Petersen; grandson, Justin Petersen; and brother, Roger Petersen.
