DUNNELL - A Celebration of Life Service for Justin E. Zitterich, 90, of North Mankato, formerly of rural Dunnell, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sherburn, Minn., with Pastor Steven D. Wilson officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at the Kramer Family Funeral Home in Sherburn and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Burial will be in Lake Belt Cemetery in rural Ceylon. Memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church in Sherburn or Mayo Clinic Health System Hospice-Mankato.

Justin passed peacefully to his eternal home in heaven on Jan. 17, 2014, at Oak Terrace Assisted Living Center in North Mankato, Minn.

Justin was born April 24, 1923, to Charlotte (Johnson) and Edwin Zitterich in Webster County, Iowa. He graduated from Estherville High School in 1942. Justin was united in marriage to Hazel Winter on Oct. 5, 1945, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Ceylon. They farmed side by side in Lake Belt Township for 63 years. In addition to farming, he found great joy in over-the-road trucking for D & J Transfer out of Sherburn. Upon full retirement they enjoyed wintering in Arkansas in their motor home, returning to Mankato for the summers. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Dunnell, where he served as a church elder, and later became a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sherburn.

Though quiet in his demeanor, Justin's actions spoke volumes. He was a man of his word. He took pride in his farming and enjoyed sharing stories of his trucking experiences. His family learned much about perseverance and hard work from him. Justin was an attentive and loving husband and father and he was very proud of his daughters. He loved his pets and his "grand-pets." He will be dearly missed but his legacy endures.

Left to remember him are his wife Hazel; daughters Marlene Kahler of Brainerd, Deanna (Mike) Simon of Hinckley, Francine Hedberg of Rochester and Stephanie (Douglas) Adams of Mankato; grandchildren Kristine, Thomas (Michelle), Michael, and Stephen Kahler, all of the Brainerd area, Emily Kahler of Minneapolis, Ryan (Jamie) Dormody of Grayslake, Ill., Nathan (Jessie) Dormody of Eagan, and Justin and Lindsey Knutson of Mankato, as well as five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Jeralda Arcularius of Carson City, Nev., and Marietta (Merlin) Norris of Lake Mills, Iowa, his brother Eldon Zitterich of Estherville, Iowa, and his sister-in-law Helen Hartjen of Welcome; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom were very special to him.

Justin was preceded in death by his parents, brother Merle, and sister-in-law Hilda Terfehr.
