WELCOME - Celebration of Life services for Louis A. Weyer, 80, of Welcome, Minn., will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at Kramer Family Funeral Home Chapel in Welcome, Minn., with Father Brian Sutton and Pastor Richard Abel officiating. There will be full military honors by the Welcome American Legion Post 553 and the Sherburn VFW Post 8261 of Sherburn at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Bird Island, Minn.

Louis was called to his eternal rest on Thursday morning, Jan. 2, 2014, at Temperance Lake Ridge Assisted Living in Sherburn, Minn. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at the funeral home in Welcome.

Louis August Weyer was born Jan. 16, 1933, in Renville County, Minn., to Edward and Mary (Ahrendt) Weyer. He attended school in rural Olivia. Louis worked at various jobs over the years:?truck driver, insurance sales, farm implement sales and other farm-related work. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1955. An active leader of any community he lived in, he received the honors of the Third Degree of Knights of Columbus and was a district deputy. On April 16, 1977, he was united in marriage to Delores "Babe" Godden at St. John's United Church of Christ Chapel in Fairmont, Minn. After their marriage, they lived in Welcome. He served as Commander of the Welcome American Legion, and was elected a councilman and past mayor of Welcome. Previous employers include Hofenspirger-Schoffman and Christianson Trucking in Redwood Falls, Blachowske Trucking and Ringnell Insurance in Fairmont, J & R Schugel Trucking in New Ulm and Urbana, Ill., and NuWay Cooperative of Trimont. Louis greatly enjoyed farming, fishing, playing cards and tractors.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Delores "Babe" Weyer of Sherburn, Minn.; five children, Patricia (Kevin) Duggan of Williamsburg, Va., Peggy (Daniel) Marchand of Toledo, Ohio, Jeff (Nancy) Weyer of Sauk Center, Minn., Theresa (Donald) Mages of Howard Lake, Minn., and Diane (Michael) Vosen of St. Cloud, Minn.; one stepson, Steven Godden of Chisholm, Minn. Louie was a proud grandfather and is also survived by his 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren; five siblings, Francis Weyer of Minnetonka, Minn., Elaine Mahoney of Mission, Texas, Mary Ann Woelfel of Redwood Falls, Minn., Lorraine Farmer of Mission, Texas, and Larry (Sharon) Weyer of Mission, Texas; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Louie was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mary (Ahrendt) Weyer of Bird Island, Minn.; infant son, Gregory; two brothers, James Mathias Weyer and Nicholas Weyer; and other relatives. Louie's family suggest memorials be made to United Hands Hospice.
