Huskies corral Mavericks

TRIMONT - The Jackson County Central Huskies outscored Martin County West 44-36 in the second half to earn a 69-61 boys basketball victory over the Mavericks on Thursday night in Trimont.

Zach Schwarting scored a co-game-high 23 points to guide JCC to the non-league win.

Darnell Taylor-Breck and Jon Harmening added double-figure performances for the Huskies, scoring 19 and 16 points, respectively.

The Huskies scored 42 points from behind the arc by making 14 3-pointers, in addition to making 14 free throws.

Cordell Weber topped the Mavericks by scoring a co-game-high 23 points, while teammate Richard Eckmann netted 15 points.

The Mavericks were perfect from the free throw line, going 3-for-3.

Martin County West (5-2) travels to Janesville on Tuesday night.

Jackson County Central (6-5) hits the road to Pipestone tonight.

Sleepy Eye St. Mary's 85, Truman/ Martin Luther 76 - The host Knights outpaced the visiting BluejayKnights 85-76 during a nonconference game on Thursday night in Sleepy Eye.

David Surprenant scored 24 points and grabbed five boards to pace Sleepy Eye St. Mary's winning efforts.

Payton Adams and Mike Hirsch added 17 and 15 points, respectively, for the Knights in the victory.

Sleepy Eye St. Mary's made 31 of 66 shots from the floor and swished 9 of its 15 free throw attempts in the win.

Senior forward Sam Geistfeld scored a career-high 36 points to pace the BluejayKnights' effort. Geistfeld also grabbed 13 rebounds to complete his double-double performance in addition to distributing four assists.

Colton Greiner added 12 points and three assists for TML, while Alex Weihe netted 11 points and pulled down nine boards.

Aaron Neumann distributed 10 assists for the BluejayKnights, who made 31 of 64 shots from the floor and went 5 of 9 from the charity stripe.

Truman/Martin Luther (3-7, 1-2 Valley) travels to St. Clair for a Valley Conference game on Tuesday.
