Support appreciated

December 24, 2013
Fairmont Sentinel

To the Editor:

Thank you to the individuals, community and county groups for their generous donations to the Martin County Food Pantry at the Salvation Army Corps Center this Christmas Season. On Red Bag day alone, we received about 2,850 pounds of food, with another 1,150 pounds during December.

During our Christmas Food Distribution program the week of Dec. 15, we gave out about 8,500 pounds to 150 household units. This is made possible by continued food donations throughout the year with the various food drives, plus additions from Second Harvest Heartland. This includes dry and canned goods only, and does not include meats or the food rescue items.

During the rest of the year, the food pantry distributes about 20 45-pound food boxes each week, or about 45,000 pounds per year.

Your continued donations are appreciated and we thank you for your support.
