SWEA CITY, Iowa - Funeral services for Darlene Jean Swanson, 87, of Swea City, Iowa, will be 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Swea City with Pastor Rusty Bailey, officiating. Interment will be in Harrison Township Cemetery, Swea City.

Darlene died on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at her home in Swea City. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel, Swea City.

Darlene Jean Swanson was born Aug. 3, 1926, in Ellsworth, Minn., the daughter of Otto and Josefina (Warner) Swanson. She received her education in Armstrong and Swea City schools, graduating from Swea City High School in 1945. On Aug. 17, 1948, she was united in marriage to Donald L. Swanson in Swea City. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Swea City in the home that Donald built. In 1998, the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Darlene loved to stay current with the news and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. She also enjoyed baking, canning and most important was spending time with her family. Donald died in 2004. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Swea City.

Left to cherish Darlene's memory are her children and grandchildren, Eileen (David) Paudler of Onalaska, Wis. and their children, Heather and Jonathan (RaiNing); Dale Swanson of Santa Fe, N.M.; Donald J. (Kathy) Swanson of Swea City and their children, Erin and Kayla; Joleen (Carey) Schneider of Fairmont, Minn. and their children, Josh (Tonia) and Nikolas; Jasmine (Brian); Jacob (Stacy) and Bronson; Josiah; Dennis (Vera) Swanson of Swea City and their children, Rebecca, Glen, Anders, Julie, Susannah, Amanda, Daniel, Elijah, Jeremiah; Coleen (Darryl) Schock of Granada, Minn., and their children, Jocelyn (John) and Isaak, Levi and Cassidy; Logan; and many nieces, nephews and a special cousin, Gladys Lamasters.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Ivan and Elmer; sisters, Florence, Eunice, Mildred and Geneva; and infant sister, Ruth.
