Red Bull grapplers pocket triangular

NEW ULM - The Fairmont/Martin County West Red Bulls beat New Ulm and Waseca, 42-32 and 34-31, respectively, to sweep South Central Conference triangular wrestling action on Tuesday in New Ulm.

Needing three points to beat Waseca, the Red Bulls were looking for a win from sophomore Adrian Moscoffian in the 285-pound match.

Moscoffian delivered, pinning senior Sam Sierra in 2 minutes and 59 seconds to take the 34-31 dual-meet victory.

Both teams traded wins early on in the match, with Waseca's Cade King pinning Christian Hugget at 1:49 in the 106-pound match, before Red Bull eighth-grader Collin Steuber won a 5-4 decision over Justin Sampson at 113.

The Bluejays responded with Lucas Hegel pinning Chris Ettesvold in 1:36 at 120 pounds, but Mario Moldanado claimed a 6-3 win over Beau Milbrett at 126 pounds to make it 12-6 for Waseca.

Chris Krenz, a Red Bull junior, then pinned Sergio Garcia in 3:22 to even the meet at 12-12.

Tristen Hoy took the lead back for the Bluejays, beating Levi Bulfer 6-3 at 138 pounds, but then Red Bull junior Elijah Gronewold won a 14-5 major decision over Lucas Haxon at 145 pounds to stake a two-point lead.

Joe Weber and Tanner Lange combined for back-to-back victories for the Red Bulls. Class AA, No. 8-ranked 152-pound Weber beat Brady Bomsta 8-5 at 152 pounds, while Lange grabbed the 5-4 win over Nathan Krohn at 160 pounds.

Waseca then surged for a comeback, with Jack Milbrett pinning Phillip Bowie at 1:43 in the 170-pound match before Jimmy Ebertowski won an 11-2 major decison over Harley Luhmann at 182 pounds.

Red Bull senior and Class AA, No. 6-ranked 195-pound wrestler Kory Brown pinned Levi Kuschel at 3:29, but Waseca's Dylan Winegar folowed him with a pin of Luis Figueroa in 3:07 of the 220-pound match.

That left the Red Bulls trailing by three points and needing a win, which Moscoffian delivered.

The Red Bulls were then able to sweep the conference triangular action with a 42-32 win over the Eagles.

New Ulm opened with three straight wins in the meet, with Sean Howk, Hunter Ranweiler and Ryan Wacker each winning decisions.

Howk beat Hugget 9-0 in a major decision at 106 pounds, before Ranweiler outlasted Steuber 4-0 in the 113-pound match. Wacker then completed the opening run with a 7-4 win over Ettesvold.

Moldanado ended the winning run for the Eagles with a pin of Taylor Bode in 2:12 of the 126-pound match.

Krenz then followed him with a pin of Austin Iles at 5:41 of the 132-pound match.

New Ulm's Jagger Hoffman pinned Levi Bulfer just 1:07 into the 138-pound match, before Red Bulls wrestler Gronewold pinned Austin Brandes in 2:32 at 145 pounds.

Weber and Lange combined for back-to-back pins again, with Weber beating Max Deslauries in 1:02 while Lange pinned Riley Shelgren in 1:13.

New Ulm's Sam Hoppe and Cole Wilfahrt won the 170 and 182-pound matches for the Eagles. Hoppe took a major decision over Bowie at 16-6, before Wilfahrt pinned Luhmann at 4:41 in their match.

Kory Brown pinned Lorenzo Hernandez for the Red Bulls at 1:12 before Figueroa took a pin of Braxton Greenwaldt at 1:19 of the 220-pound match for the final Red Bull victory.

The Eagles' Granger Lehman took home the final win of the match, pinning Moscoffian in 52 seconds.

Fairmont/Martin County West (2-0, 2-0 SCC) travels for a conference dual meet at 6 p.m. Thursday in St. James.

NYA Triangular

The Spectrum Sting claimed a 42-33 win, before the Raiders could roll by the Madelia/Truman/Martin Luther 52-21 to blank them during nonconference wrestling action on Tuesday in Norwood Young America.

The Sting swept all but six matches during their dual meet action against the Jayhawks.

The Jayhawks's Jeremiah Colon pinned Sam Rogers in 5:21 of the 132-pound match, before Zack Pettersen could claim an 8-7 decision over Josiah Roberts at 145.

Jesus Lopez then followed Pettersen with a pin of Zak Selley at 2:55 in the 152-pound match.

Steve Terney and Thomas Timm won the 170-pound and 195-pound matches by forfeit for the Jayhawks.

Jake Denn pinned Curtis Holst in 3:47 of the 220-pound match for the final Jayhawk win in the match.

The Sting opened up with four straight victories in the match against the Jayhawks.

Gary Leschovsky pinned Mike McLaughlin in 30 seconds to open the match at 106 pounds, before Esteban Teigen pinned Cole Pietsch at 4:12 in the 113-pound match.

Steven Salfrank pinned Grant Koehler in 1:55 for the Sing, before Ryan Killeen pinned the Jayhawks Jerson Castro at 4:57 during 126-pound action.

Luke Nolden added a win for the Sting, beating Justin Gifferson 10-3.

Noah Rogers, Shane Herrlin and Elliot Uecker claimed the final wins for Spectrum in the match.

Rogers pinned Weston Ricard in 5:15 of the 160-pound match, before Herrlin won the 182-pound match by forfeit. Uecker earned the final win with a 7-0 shut out of Jeremey Blakesley at 285 pounds.

The hosting Raiders then made sure that the Jayhawks left the triangular without a team victory, winning their dual meet 52-21.

Pietsch earned a win at 113 pounds with a pin of Peter Barth at 2:23 for the Jayhawks.

Colon grabbed his second pin of the day with a victory over Zeke Dodge at 5:17 in the 132-pound match.

Tierney secured an 8-4 decision over Caleb Wickenhauser at 170 pounds, while teammate Denn pinned Michael Raatz at 1:54 in the 195-pound match.

The Raiders garnered a pin to start off the meet with Anthony Hennen pinning McLaughlin at 3:26 in the 106-pound match.

Ben Barth then pinned Koehler in 33 seconds followed by Josh Hendel winning a 15-4 major decision over Castro at 132 pounds for the Raiders.

Davis Colley won a 10-2 major decison over Gifferson, before Jared Wickenhauser earned a technical fall, 19-3 win over Pettersen at 4:40 during the 145-pound match.

Justin Carlson earned a two-point 14-12 decision over Lopez at 145 pounds, before Alex Meeker pinned Ricard at 5:04 at 160 pounds.

Jordan Kohls, Nick Forner and Steven Smith won the final matches for the Raiders.

Kohls won at 182 by forfeit, before Forner pinned Timm at 2:50 in the 220-pound match. Smith then closed out the meet with a pin of Blakesley at 2:39 of the 285-pound match.

Madelia/Truman Martin Luther (0-2) travels for a nonconference triangular meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday in Sleepy Eye.
