FAIRMONT - Martin County commissioners are taking care of year-end business.
On Tuesday, the board approved the sole bid for the jail food contract for the next two years: Hy-Vee's bid of $4 per meal, with two hot meals being delivered each day.
In other action, the board approved the sheriff's department's online policy manual through Lexipol.
"Most of the counties are already doing this," said Capt. Corey Klanderud, explaining that if there is any legislative mandate or case law that could change state or federal policies, Lexipol automatically provides an update.
There is also the option of having each officer have a quick scenario-based training e-mailed to them each day.
"We started this back when Sheriff Gerhardt was still here," Klanderud said of feeding the department's policy manual into the Lexipol system.
Lexipol aims to cut personnel time dedicated to policy, and reduce the number of claims against an agency, and the severity of any payouts.
Elsewhere, in highway department business, the board approved the promotion of Scott Jones from maintenance crew foreman to maintenance superintendent, replacing Greg Rabbe, who retired.
In other business, commissioners approved a 2 percent increase in their own compensation, per diems and expenses.
The increase equates to annual compensation of $22,480, up from $22,040 for 2013.
There is an additional $1,000 for the chairman, and $500 for the vice-chairman and any commissioners appointed to the personnel committee, except for the board chairman.
There is also a $75 per diem for each day of performing official duties.
Commissioners also reviewed committee assignments for 2014, with Steve Pierce and Dan Schmidtke trading assignments. Schmidtke will now serve on the building committee while Pierce will serve on the county Economic Development Authority.
