ALGONA, Iowa - Junior wing Peyton Oleson delivered a game-leading 16 points to guide the North Union Warriors to a season-opening 52-37 basketball victory over the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears on Monday night in Algona, Iowa.
Oleson also garnered six rebounds to go with three steals, while teammate Sarah Rolling generated 11 points and five boards.
Madison Irmiter and Alexis Valvick each scored six points for the Warriors during the nonconference clash. Irmiter also produced five rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Valvick also doled out a pair of assists.
Post player Madison Bollig pulled down a team-best eight rebounds for North Union, while teammate Aurora Oliver distributed two assists and garnered a pair of steals.
The Warriors connected on 16 of 46 shots from 2-point range for 35 percent, 2 of 12 from behind the 3-point arc and 14 of 21 at the free throw line for 67 percent.
North Union built a 32-20 advantage by halftime and never trailed Bishop Garrigan during the season-opening contest in Algona, Iowa.
Nicole Behr scored a co-game-high 16 points to pace the Golden Bears.
North Union (1-0) travels to Buffalo Center, Iowa, tonight to face North Iowa in another nonconference game.
