EDEN PRAIRIE - Ella Marie "Tudy" (Saggau) Starksen, age 87, of Eden Prairie, born Sept. 26, 1926, in Ceylon, Minn., who was a loving mother, wife and dear friend to many, was led by a special angel to her new home in heaven on Oct. 26, 2013. Tudy was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Ella (Bremer) Saggau of Ceylon; and siblings, Tom, Valera (Uetzmann), John, Anna Mae (Constable), Bill and H.A.
She enjoyed growing up on a farm in a large family of 10. Tudy felt privileged to attend the University of Minnesota, where she earned a bachelor's degree in home economics and was selected to be taught golf by the famed Les Bolstad. (She continued to golf until well into her 80s). Tudy was chosen by the University as honorary Homecoming Queen during their 50-year class celebration (1948-1998).
She married Dr. John "Jack" Hanson, also of Ceylon, in 1949 and they moved to Fairmont and raised five children. She enjoyed her career in the fashion industry as a buyer. Tudy moved to the Twin Cities in the early 1980s where she met and married Charles Bachman of Edina, but was widowed after seven short years.
In 1992, she married Chuck Starksen, a native of Hetland S.D. They enjoyed spending time with family and traveling. They moved from their home in Edina to The Colony in Eden Prairie. Tudy and Chuck went on trips with her family to Europe, visiting the homes of her Bremer and Saggau heritage.
She was an active member of Cross View Lutheran Church, her bridge group and a longtime member of AAUW (American Association of University Women). She enjoyed reading, swimming and even water skiing until the age of 65.
Tudy is survived by husband Chuck Starksen; five children, 10 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren: Tom (Sarah) Hanson of Prior Lake (Josh, Ben, Zach, Andrew and Matt), Mark (Teri) Hanson of Roseville (Jake and John Patrick), Pam (Mark) Moksnes of Chanhassen (Katie, Laura and John Thomas), Bill Hanson and John "Jack" Hanson, both of Minneapolis.
