FAIRMONT - What does it take to live well?
The second annual Wellness Expo will address that topic - with interactive booths and vendors - from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Fairmont Elementary School.
"We really want to concentrate on wellness, because we've had health fairs before," said Roni Dauer of Community Education and Recreation, which is helping organize the gathering. "It's meant to be a family event."
About a dozen vendors will be at the fair, all with activities and other interactive displays.
"The focus is on general wellness," said Ashley Johnson, manager of Walgreens in Fairmont. "We also have different organizations such as the youth coalition YOCO, the substance abuse coalition. We're gearing it toward the whole picture, keeping active, addressing mental health, and the other options there are out there to stay healthier."
Along with Walgreens and Fairmont CER, other participating vendors include: Mayo Clinic Health System, Eunoia Family Resource Center, do Terra oils, Fairmont Early Childhood Initiative, Fairmont Substance Abuse Coalition, Youth Coalition, Family Birth Support Services, Cutting Edge Fitness, Interfaith Caregivers, Hy-Vee, Odd Fellows, Optimal Health & Chiropractic and Environ.
With the event in its second year, Dauer said organizers knew what direction they wanted to take.
"We definitely wanted more spectator participation," she said. "So we've told the vendors to have something interactive to get the people involved."
The event is free and open to all. Those attending should enter through the east side of the school (door 21) and park in the Victoria Street parking lot.
