Mavericks finish 4-1 at BEA Invite

BLUE EARTH - The Martin County West Mavericks volleyball team finished 4-1 at the Blue Earth Area Invitational on Saturday in Blue Earth.

Southwest Star Concept dealt the Mavericks their only loss of the tournament, winning 25-19, 25-21 in the fifth-round match.

Kate Thiesse, who had a team-leading 51 kills, seven blocks, five ace serves and 23 digs helped lead the Mavericks past New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva 25-15, 25-21.

Reilly Geistfeld pounded 21 kills, making three blocks and five digs for the Mavericks in the tournament.

Hailey Leiding and McKenna Taylor each smacked 19 kills and made four blocks in the tournament.

Jordan Gregory added 18 kills to the potent offense, while making five blocks, 14 digs and serving up six aces.

As the Mavericks got past LeSueur-Henderson 25-19, 25-14, during the tournament Kennedy Janssen distributed 93 set assists in addition to recording 21 digs, one block and one ace serve.

Autumn Smith's team-leading 35 digs, coupled with Molly Klima's 29 digs helped the Mavericks get by the Blue Earth Area Bucs 25-9, 25-20. Smith also sizzled one ace serve and Klima scored four aces in the tournament.

The Mavericks handed Minnesota Valley Lutheran a 25-20, 25-21 loss, with the help of Haley Jensen's five kills, three aces and 22 digs in the tournament.

Ellie Kuehl doled out two assists for the Mavericks on Saturday.

Martin County West (18-5, 5-0 Valley) travels to Nicollet for a 4:30 p.m. conference game on Tuesday.

The Blue Earth Area volleyball team came close, but was unable to grab a win in the Blue Earth Area Invite on Saturday.

The Chargers slipped past the Bucs 25-20, 25-22, before the Wildcats downed the hosts 25-11, 25-12.

The Panthers won 25-18, 25-11 in the third round, while the Mavericks grabbed a 25-9, 25-20 win.

The Giants then ended the Bucs day with a 25-19, 25-12 loss.

Audrey McDonald dispensed 16 kills and six ace serves in addition to making 32 digs to help pace the Bucs' effort.

Nicole Krinke distributed 22 set assists and made 23 digs, while smacking 11 kills in the tournament.

Ciarra Olson made 17 digs and recorded four blocks and eight kills, while Kylie Ahl tallied 14 digs.

Haley Resutek added eight digs, five ace serves and two kills for the Bucs, along with Rena Zierke's four aces and six digs.

Blue Earth Area (2-17, 0-7 SCC) plays host to Class 2A, No. 8-ranked Jackson County Central for a 7:30 p.m. game today in Blue Earth.
