FAIRMONT - Funeral services for Marilyn B. Niss, 81, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at the Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel, Fairmont with interment in Harrison Township Cemetery in Swea City, Iowa.
Marilyn passed away on Thursday morning, Sept. 12, 2013, at her home in Fairmont. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. until the time of the services at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Lakeview Funeral Home.
Marilyn B. (Bone) Krenz Niss was born Feb. 14, 1932, in Swea City, Iowa, the daughter of Guy and Lillian (Johnson) Bone. Marilyn received her education in Swea City and graduated from Swea City High School in 1950. She furthered her education at Mankato Commercial School. On Oct. 12, 1951, Marilyn was united in marriage to Howard Krenz. This union was blessed with two sons, Dwight and Darwyn. The couple resided in Fairmont where Marilyn worked for Keonigs Variety and Railway Motors. Marilyn and Howard later moved to Pleasant Prairie Township and farmed until Howard passed away on Jan. 3, 1970. They had shared nearly nineteen years together. Marilyn and her sons moved back to Fairmont and Marilyn opened Marilyn's Consignment. After that store closed, Marilyn worked for Ehlers Women's Ready To Wear until it closed in 1980. On April 5, 1980, Marilyn was united in marriage to LeRoy Niss. The couple resided in Fairmont and shared twenty five years together before LeRoy passed away on Nov. 28, 2005. Marilyn then went to work at Conoco Gas and Convenience Store in Fairmont. She worked her way up to store manager until her retirement in 2002. Marilyn enjoyed spending time with her sons, step-children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She especially loved playing cards with her grandchildren, going to casinos, and her two cats, Tommy and Tuffy. Left to cherish her memory include: her sons, Dwight Krenz and Darwyn Krenz, both of Fairmont, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; step-daughter, Barbara (Lee) Groehler of Victoria, Minn.; step-sons, Darwin (Sharon) Niss of Elysian, Minn., Marlin (Cheryl) Niss of New London, Minn., and Jerome (Kim) Niss of Fairmont, Minn.; many other relatives and friends. Along with her parents, Guy and Lillian Bone, Marilyn is also preceded in death by her husband, Howard Krenz; husband, LeRoy Niss; daughter-in-infancy, Pamela Kay Krenz; brother, Orville Bone; step-great-grandchildren, Lukas Neubarth, and Madison Villavicencio; and brother-in-law, Henry Hippen.
