MASON, Wis. - A Celebration of Life service for Sharla Mae Pavel, 62, of Mason will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at her home (23025 Faith Church Rd.) near Mason, Wis.
Dear beloved Sharla passed away in the early morning on Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Northern Lights Nursing Home in Washburn, Wis. During the last weeks of her life, she was comforted bedside by family members and friends. The Bratley Funeral Home in Washburn is assisting the family with arrangements.
Sharla was born Sept. 11, 1950, in Fairmont, Minn., to Al and Clestle (Gillespie) Nelson. Helping to raise her was her grandmother Tillie, who lived in the family house on Budd Lake. She attended public schools in Fairmont, graduating in 1968. Her lifelong love of horses began in Fairmont. In the late '60's, Sharla was a professional singer/entertainer with her brother's bands "Nellie's Folk" and "The Tenth Story Window." During that period, she travelled nationally, and in 1969, performed a one-month stand with the group in Las Vegas, warming-up for the "Ike and Tina Turner Revue." She resided in Tucson, Ariz., until she moved to the Colorado mountains in 1972 and then on to southern Wisconsin. She married Don Pavel in 1976, soon moving to northern Wisconsin where she raised her two sons, Mason and Ira. Sharla worked in the home health care profession, assisting elders in their homes. Additionally, she worked on the election board in Mason Township for many years. For the past 17 years, Sharla bred and raised Boston Terriers. It was her passion to the end of her life. She will always be remembered for her kindness, sense of humor, being a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and preparer of many Thanksgiving dinners. She is survived by sons, Mason (Rachel) Pavel of Forest Lake, Minn., and Ira Pavel of Roseville, Minn.; two precious grandchildren, Kara and Jack Pavel; brother, Warren Nelson of Washburn, Wis.; and many loving relatives, friends and neighbors. Sharla was preceded in death by her parents Alvin and Clestle (Gillespie) Nelson; brother, Mark Nelson; grandmothers, Tillie Nelson and Effie Gillespie; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
