FAIRMONT - Mass of Christian Burial for Mildred L. "Millie" McNerney, 84, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2013, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Interment will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Millie passed away on Thursday morning, July 18, 2013, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont surrounded by her family. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday, July 21, with a prayer service at 8 p.m., at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont.
Mildred "Millie" Leona (Schroer) McNerney was born May 2, 1929, in Melrose, Minn., the daughter of Rudolph and Mary (Ernst) Schroer. Her family moved to Wilmont, Minn., in 1930, where she attended elementary school. She graduated in 1946 from Worthington High School. In 1949, Millie moved to Fairmont, Minn. On Oct. 24, 1950, Millie was united in marriage to Francis McNerney. The couple resided in Fairmont where Millie worked as a waitress at the Sirloin House and Sweet Shop. She also worked as a cook at St. John Vianney Catholic School. This union was blessed with three sons, Patrick, Michael and Scott. Millie and Francis shared 62 years together.
Millie was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church including the St. Michael's Circle and Council of Catholic Women. She also held memberships with the Martin County VFW Post 1222 Auxiliary and Rural Carriers' Association Auxiliary.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Francis McNerney of Fairmont, Minn.; sons, Patrick McNerney and his wife, Kay of Des Moines, Iowa, Michael McNerney and his wife, Vernette of Fairmont, Minn., and Scott McNerney and his wife, Ruth of Atlanta, Ga.; three grandchildren, Aaron McNerney and his wife, Robyn of Milwaukee, Wis., Jason McNerney and his wife, Michelle of Minneapolis, Minn., and Jessica Gronewald and her husband, Ross of Granada, Minn.; three great- grandchildren, Ainsley, Ingrid and Madeline; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Along with her parents, Rudolph and Mary Schroer, Millie was preceded in death by her sisters, Irene Schroer, Marie Scholtes and Monica Kontz; and brothers, Herman and Lawrence Schroer.
