Margaret (Peg) and Lyle (Red) Thompson's lives were forever changed for the better on Aug. 18, 1945, when their son, Monte Lynn, was born. Monte graduated from Cylinder High School and following graduation, he continued his education at Iowa Lakes Community College. He then began his farming career on the family farm where he raised his son, Scott, and daughter, Heidi. On March 24, 2000, Monte was united in marriage to Janis Austin. They made their life together on the farm that they loved so much for thirteen years. Monte was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Depew, Iowa, and was a current vice-chairman of the church. He served over a decade on the Farmer's Mutual board of directors and also served on the Cylinder Co-op board of directors. He touched the lives of all area school children by taking a day out of his busy harvest schedule to share his farm and host the annual Farm Safety Day.
Left to treasure his memory is his wife, Janis; his mother, Peg; his son, Scott (Lynnette) Thompson and their children, Ashley and Tyler; his daughter, Heidi Thompson-Krause and her friend Ron Haisman and Heidi's children, Shelby and Austin; his second family, Monica (Scott) Hoch and their children, Shay and Erin and Brad Twait; his sister, Christy (Dave) White; his brother, Jim (Cindy) Thompson; nephews, Ryan White, Josh White; nieces, Jamie Gavle, and Brett Thompson; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Roger) Moon and their son, Adam (Katie) Malo, and Susan Austin and her sons, Tyler Anderson and Riley (Ashley) Anderson.
Monte was preceded in death by his father, Lyle Thompson.
