WELCOME - Two dances, two feeds and the big parade are the highlights for this weekend's Welcome Summer Festival.
The Welcome Fire Department's chicken feed at the Legion is Friday, from 5-7:30 p.m.
Inflatable rides and kids activities also start Friday evening, from 6-9 p.m. A bean bag tournament will begin uptown at 7:30 p.m., with registration at 6:30 p.m.
"We're having a lot of the same things that we've had before," said Justin Borchardt, an organizer of the event. "One of the new things this year is the youth dance on Friday night, targeted toward the younger people and the teens."
A DJ will be spinning tunes for the Friday youth dance.
On Saturday, citywide garage sales begin at 8 a.m.
"We have 22 garage sales registered," Borchardt said. "Maps for the garage sales can be picked up at the Casey's station."
Slowpitch softball tournaments begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, with food stands at the tournaments also opening at that time.
At 1 p.m. Trinity Lutheran Church will hold a pie-and-ice cream social until 4:30 p.m. Kids activities and inflatable rides will be back in operation at 2 p.m., until 9 p.m., at the park uptown. Also taking place are the antique tractor and equipment show, and the shine and show car show.
The big parade begins at 4 p.m., with lineup starting at 2:30 p.m. Following the parade, the Legion's pork chop feed begins at 5 p.m., along with the Welcome Fire Department auto-extraction demonstration at the fire hall, and the Welcome beer stand will also open for business.
The kiddie tractor pull begins at 6 p.m. and there will be toilet races at 7 p.m.
Saturday's activities wrap up for the evening with a street dance with the band "Decadence Inc." performing from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
