FAIRMONT - Mass of Christian Burial for Donald J. Charnecki, 71, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 24, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Burial will follow in Holy Family Catholic Church in East Chain.
Donald passed away Thursday morning, June 20, 2013, at the Mayo Clinic Health SystemFairmont. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, June 23, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is in charge of the arrangements.
Donald Joseph Charnecki was born July 5, 1941, in East Chain, Minn., the son of Joseph and Dorothy (Shumski) Charnecki. Don attended school in East Chain and then worked various jobs. He was united in marriage to Janice Elizabeth Long on Nov. 18, 1961, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford, Iowa. They made their home in Fairmont and East Chain and Don worked mainly as a truck driver. Over the years, he drove truck for Rocki Nawrocki, Bettin Trucking and Blachowske Trucking. Janice passed away on Nov. 1, 2003. Don was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. In his early years, Don enjoyed scrapping iron and snowmobile repair. Don always had a garden and enjoyed helping out his neighbors. He is survived by one daughter, Danna Groenewold and her husband, Daryl of Brookings, S.D.; special friend, Mary Schoenert of Fairmont; grandchildren, Shannon Bevers (Ryan) of Brookings, S.D., Ryan Freeman of Texas, Kyle Groenewold (Larissa) of Brookings, S.D., Tyler Freeman (Tennille) of Brookings, S.D.; stepgrandsons, Jeremy Groenewold and Joshua Groenewold of Yale, S.D.; 10 great-grandchildren, Travis Bullington, JulieAnn Freeman, Tacey Freeman, Zackary Bevers, Ethan Freeman, Kyleigh Groenewold, Gabrielle Bevers, Jaycee Groenewold, Bennett Freeman and Ithica Groenewold; three sisters, Janice Iaquinto of Blaine, Minn., Eileen Grefe (Joel) of Fairmont, and Teresa Schmidt of Sioux Falls, S.D.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Dorothy Charnecki; wife, Janice Charnecki; and one infant sister.
