GRANADA - A special celebration will take place in Granada on June 21-22, when the town recognizes its 125th anniversary.

"We celebrated our 100th anniversary in 1988," said Holly Benson, a committee member for the 125th celebration. "All we want to do is get everyone out to celebrate."

The action begins Friday, June 21, with an antique car and tractor display from 4-8 p.m. (Registration is from 1-3 p.m.) A hog roast by the Granada Fire Department will take place from 5-8 p.m.

Also from 5-8 p.m., there will be kids activities and karaoke by Butch Theobald and friends.

The beer garden will open at 3 p.m., and a street dance will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight, with the White Sidewalls performing.

On Saturday, activities begin with the antique tractor brigade at 8 a.m., and a flea market will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the GHEC school grounds.

Kids activities will run from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the school, and will include bouncy castles, kids train and an inflatable slide.

The kiddie tractor pull will take place at 10 a.m., with a 9:30 a.m. registration, and a bean bag/washerboard tournament will begin at 11 a.m., with a 10:30 a.m. registration.

An all-school reunion for Granada-Huntley-East Chain graduates will be held from 10:30-1:30 p.m.

"It's going to be an open-house reunion at the school," Benson said.

The biggest event of the day will be the parade, which begins at 2 p.m.

"We already have more than 60 units signed up so far," Benson said. "We also have three stages for entertainment. We'll have a magician, and (percussionists) SuFuDu will be performing. There will be various performers, and Jack Sparrow will be there and he might have his pirate ship with him."

Other performances will include the Top Notchmen, a polka-country group, from 3-7 p.m., while a Second Street dance, with the band Decadence performing, will be held from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

"Everything is going on at the city park area or Main Street," Benson said. "We're just really excited."
