SWEA CITY - Cleanup hitter Collete Haag put the finishing touches on North Union's home run derby on Thursday night.
Haag slugged a grand slam homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to power the Iowa Class 2A, No. 3-ranked Warriors to a 14-2, five-inning nonconference softball victory over the Spirit Lake Indians in Swea City.
Haag, who went 4-for-4 with a game-best five RBIs, also scored a pair of runs for North Union, which hammered out 15 hits - including an impressive four round-trippers.
Jasmine Clausen cranked a two-run homer over the fence during the Warriors' second at-bat, Dena Looft jacked a two-run clout during a three-run third, while Allie Ingalls smacked a two-run shot during the home team's three-run fourth.
Ingalls, Cheyanne Boland and Sara Johnson each produced two hits, with Ingalls driving in two runs and scoring three times. Autumn Boland went 1-for-4 with two RBIs, Clausen produced three RBIs, while Sarah Rolling and Taylor Mathine each added one hit each.
Autumn Boland, Cheyanne Boland, Looft, Clausen, Johnson, Mathine, along with pinch runners Anna Ingalls, Lexi Valvick and Bailey Anderson, each scored one run.
Ingalls allowed two runs on three hits in five full frames of work to earn the complete-game victory for the Warriors. The senior ace right-hander struck out five and issued only one walk.
North Union (7-0) plays host to Emmetsburg tonight in Swea City.
