Warriors split pair with Titans

GRAETTINGER, Iowa - North Union starting pitcher Cody Runksmeier hurled a four-hit victory and went 3-for-5 at the plate to pace the Warriors in a 12-2 victory over the Graettinger-Terril/ Ruthven-Ayshire Titans on Monday in Game 1 of an Iowa prep baseball doubleheader in Graettinger.

The teams would split the twinbill, with the Titans edging the Warriors 7-5 in Game 2.

Cody Runksmeier hit a two-run double for the Warriors and pitched six innings, allowing two runs and striking out six to earn the complete-game win.

Jake Govern went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored as the Warriors exploded for five runs in the fifth and four in the seventh inning.

Colin Runksmeier had one hit and drove in three RBIs for North Union in the game.

Blaze Alesch smacked an RBI doublefor the Titans.

Alesch then scored on Kyle Dalen's RBI single for the Titans.

Justin Rodrigues threw 4 2/3 innings for the Titans, giving up four runs on four hits, striking out two and walking six to take the loss.

Marcus Girres pitched two innings of relief, allowing eight runs on three hits.

The Titans leadoff batter, Girres, produced three hits, scored once and drove in one run to help the home team edge the Warriors, 7-5, during Game 2 on Monday.

Girres, along with Dalen and Ethan Peterson, doubled for the Titans, with Peterson scoring two runs and Dalen crossing the plate once.

Alesch allowed five runs - only one earned - on 10 hits, recorded 10 strikeouts and did not issue a walk in seven innings of work to earn the complete-game victory for GTRA.

Sawyer Doocy went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, scored two runs and generated one RBI to top the Warriors.

Spencer Ricke doubled twice in four at-bats to produce a game-best three RBIs for North union, while teammate Brandon Kollasch added a double.

Alex Deitering supplied a hit and an RBI for the Warriors, while teammates Colin Runksmeier and Corey Vaske each added a hit.

Cody Runksmeier started on the mound for North Union, allowing four runs - just one earned - on four hits in 4 1/3 innings. Cody Runksmeier struck out three and did not issue a walk.

Colin Runksmeier gave up three runs - all unearned - on five hits in 1 2/3 innings of relief to take the loss. Colin Runksmeier walked one and fanned one.

North Union (5-4) plays host to Spencer at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Bancroft, Iowa.

Spencer Tour

North Union 9, Sioux Central 0 - Corey Vaske fired a six-hit complete-game shutout to power the Warriors to a 9-0 victory over Sioux Central during the Spencer Tournament on Saturday.

Vaske notched six strikeouts and issued two walks in seven innings of work to earn the victory.

Garrett Johnson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and scored once to top North Union's nine-hit attack, while Alex Deitering went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Sawyer Doocy went 1-for-4 with two RBIs for the Warriors, Colin Runksmeier and Jake Adams each went 1-for-3 and scored two runs, while Brandon Kollasch added a hit and an RBI.

Sioux City West 11, North Union 0 - Tucker Askelson hurled a three-hitter, while Matt Henry doubled home a pair of runs to steer West to an 11-0, five-inning win over the Warriors during tournament action Saturday in Spencer, Iowa.

Askelson recorded four strikeouts and issued one walk in five full frames to earn the complete-game victory.

Colin Runksmeier, Cody Runksmeier and Garrett Johnson accounted for North Union's hits on the game, with Colin Runksmeier and Johnson doubling.
