WESLACO, Texas - A memorial service for Frederick "Fritz" Gould, 84, of Weslaco, Texas, and Escanaba, Mich., formerly of Sherburn and Mankato, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2013, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Burial of ashes and full military honors by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and the Martin County VFW Post 1222 will follow the service at Lakeside Cemetery.
Fritz passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2013, at his home in Weslaco, Texas.
Frederick "Fritz" Gould was born on March 25, 1929, in Manyaska Township, Martin County, the son of Edwin and Mayme (Nelson) Gould. Fritz attended school in Sherburn, Minn., before entering the U.S. Marine Corps when he was 17 and served for two years. Fritz also served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1954. Fritz boxed in the military and for Golden Gloves.
Fritz married Edith Brownlee on June 8, 1952. He graduated from the Mankato Commercial College and worked for Lundin Construction Co. from 1957 to 1976. While in Mankato, he was an active member of the Jaycees. Fritz married Mae Hynes on Jan. 16, 1994, and spent the last 19 years living in Escanaba, Mich., and wintered in Weslaco, Texas. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Escanaba, Delta Masonic Lodge 195 in Escanaba, and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. During retirement years, Fritz enjoyed woodworking and golfing.
He is survived by his wife, Mae Gould of Escanaba, Mich., and Weslaco, Texas; daughter, Corrine Riley and her husband, Tom of North Mankato, Minn.; son, Brian Gould and his wife, Lori, of Marine on St. Croix, Minn.; grandchildren, Seth Riley (Crystal) of Austin, Texas, Kelsey Riley of Boulder, Colo., and Emily Gould of Marine on St. Croix; great-granddaughter, Katana; Mae's children and grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers, Sara Malo and her husband, Robert of Sherburn, Minn., Richard Gould and his wife, Helen of Fairmont, Minn., Helen Houle and her husband, John of Mounds View, Minn., Jack Gould and his wife, Sue of Pocahontas, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Fritz was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Mayme Gould; step mom, Margaret Gould; and one sister, Beret.
