MARSHALL - Fairmont right-hander Bryce Holm fired a one-hit complete-game gem to guide the Class AA, No. 5-ranked Cardinals to a 6-1 triumph over the Marshall Tigers on Saturday during non-league baseball action at American Legion Field in Marshall.
Holm allowed one earned run, recorded five strikeouts and issued six walks in seven innings on the mound to earn the victory.
Luke Becker produced two hits, collected one RBI and scored one run to spearhead the Cardinals' five-hit performance.
Spencer Chirpich singled in the fourth inning to generate one of his two RBIs on the game and also scored once for Fairmont, while Levi Becker contributed one hit and one RBI. Christian Petschke added one hit.
Marshall starting pitcher Adam Kovash gave up three runs - all earned - on only one hit, issued six walks and did not record a strikeout in three innings of work to take the loss.
Austin Saugstad gave up three runs on four hits in four frames of relief for the Tigers. Saugstad fanned two, walked two and hit two batters.
Fairmont (10-1, 5-1 South Central) travels to St. Peter on Tuesday for a 4:30 p.m. doubleheader.

Matt Lytle pitched a four-hit complete-game gem to propel Fairmont to a 7-1 victory over Marshall during B-squad action Saturday in Marshall.
Lytle allowed one unearned run, struck out eight and walked two in seven innings of work to earn the victory.
Lytle also assisted his own cause by collecting two hits at the plate. Ben Abel, Rodney Engstrom, Bailey Koppen and Michael Hawkins each delivered a hit and one RBI for the Cardinals.
Fairmont (7-0) travels to St. Peter on Tuesday.
Martin County West 4, Lyle/ Austin Pacelli 2 - Starting pitcher Tyson Schuder and reliever Austin Krumwiede combined on a four-hitter as the Mavericks doubled up the Athletics, 4-2, during nonconference action Saturday at the Fox Lake Sports Complex in Welcome.
Schuder allowed two runs on four hits, struck out four and walked one in 5 2/3 innings to net the victory. Krumwiede notched two strikeouts and issued one walk in hurling 1 1/3 innings of hitless and scoreless relief to earn the save.
Krumwiede and Jake Faber each went 2-for-4 to top MCW's offense, with Krumwiede generating one RBI and Faber collecting a triple.
Tony Payne went 1-for-4 with an RBI for the Mavericks, while teammate Alex Saxen supplied a double.

Fairmont 8, Milroy Irish 3 - Levi Becker pounded out four hits, including a pair of doubles, to produce a game-best six RBIs to power the Class 'C' No. 2-ranked Fairmont Martins to an 8-3 victory over the Milroy Irish on Sunday during amateur baseball action at Herb Wolf Field in Fairmont.
Adam Schmidt contributed three hits and two RBIs to the Martins' 16-hit offensive attack, while Jon Ellis and Scott Chirpich each supplied three hits. Ellis also tripled and drove in one run.
Spencer Chirpich produced two hits, while teammate Shaun McGuire chipped in a single for Fairmont.
Starting pitcher Ian Bents allowed three earned runs on seven hits, struck out six and walked two in five innings of work to earn the victory.
McGuire worked four shutout frames in relief, giving up one hit, while fanning six and issuing two base-on-balls to net the save.
