MANKATO - Fairmont's Lizzie Larson carded a meet-best 18-hole round of 81 to claim medalist honors, but the Mankato West Scarlets girls golf team claimed the 385-401 victory over the Cardinals on Friday at North Links Golf Course in Mankato.
Larson used a pair of long putts to engineer two birdies on the par-3 No. 3 and par-4 No. 9 in her front-side score of 39.
The back nine gave Larson some challenges, and with a shot off the cart path on the par-4 No. 18, she finished her eight-par round with a double-bogey for a 42 second nine en route to a score of 81.
Megan Rosol finished second for the Cardinals by carding a round of 44-43-87. Rosol started her round with three straight pars on her front nine for a 44.
On the back nine, Rosol scored her lone birdie of the round on the par-5 No. 15 to punctuate a total of 43 for a round of 87.
Emily Kim recorded her lone par on the par-3 No. 16 in her round of 54-52-106 for Fairmont. Cassidy Krusemark also scored one par - on the par-4 No. 4 - during her round of 127 for the Cardinals to complete the counting scores.
Dayna Madson rounded out the Cardinals' efforts with a one-par round of 139, with her par coming on the par-3 12th hole.
Mankato West was led by Eleanor Dhuyvetter, who scored an 89. Kendra Allen and Emily Smith added scores of 93 and 99, respectively, while teammate Laura Carpenter completed the counting scores with a 104.
Claire Park and Mari Buseth rounded out the Scarlets' efforts with a 117 and a 101, respectively.
Fairmont plays host to St. James and New Ulm in a nine-hole triangular meet at 4:15 p.m. on Monday at Rose Lake Golf Course.

Fairmont senior Josh Baldus scored eight pars and a pair of birdies for an 18-hole round of 76 to lead the Cardinals' team score of 340 during Day 1 boys golf action at the Jordan Invite at the Ridges at Sand Creek golf course on Friday.
Baldus birdied the par-3 No. 5 and par-3 No. 15 to generate front and back scores of 37 and 39.
Carter Welchlin also managed a pair of birdies - on the par-5, No. 7 and par-4 No. 14 -?to punctuate a round of 43-41-84.
Joe Nordquist rattled off four straight pairs on the back nine and then finished with three pars and a birdie in the final four holes for a 51-36-87. Nordquist's birdie came on the par-5 No. 16.
Sam Havnen recorded five pars and a birdie on the par-4 No. 8 for a round of 45-48-93 to complete the Cardinals' counting scores.
Cole Huinker and Marcus Wiebe rounded out Fairmont's efforts with rounds of 47-48-95 and 52-54-106, respectively.
Fairmont tees off at 1:42 p.m. today for the second round of the Jordan Invite at the Ridges at Sand Creek.
Martin County West 210, Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial 246 (Girls) - Jennifer Petersen carded a nine-hole round of 47 to earn meet medalist honors and paced the Mavericks girls golf team to a 210-246 Valley Conference meet victory over the Knights on Friday at Fox Lake Golf Course in Sherburn.
Morgan Larson, Kelci Russenberger and Kaleigh Russenberger each shot under 60 to add to the Mavericks' winning total. Larson and Kelci Russenberger each scored 53s, while Kaleigh Russenberger netted a 57 to complete the counting marks.
Tayler DeVary rounded out the Mavericks' efforts with a score of 63.
Izzy Sullivan scored a team-leading 52 to pace the Knights' efforts, while Adrienne LeMay and Megan Lee each scored under with 70 mark with 60 and 64, respectively.
Emily Wilhelm completed the Knights' team score with a round of 70.
Martin County West (5-1) will travel to Freeborn for the Valley Conference meet at 9 a.m. May 21 at the Oakview Golf Course.
Martin County West 163, Southwest Star Concept 193, Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial 223 (Boys) - Cordell Weber scored a 1-over par meet medalist round of 36 to lead the Mavericks to a first-place score of 163 in a Valley Conference triangular meet on Friday at Fox Lake Golf Course in Sherburn.
The Mavericks topped the Wildcats' score of 193 and the Knights' 223 to first-place honors.
Hunter Olson and Jake Buntjer scored a 41 and a 42, respectively, while Connor Anderson carded a 44 to complete the Mavericks' counting scores.
Tyson Crosby and Hunter Schofield rounded out the Mavericks' efforts with rounds of 47 and 49, respectively.
Collin Meinders scored a 44 to lead the Wildcats' scoring efforts. Logan Ellenbecker scored a 47, while teammates Kyle Wendland and Clay Salzwedel scored rounds of 49 and 53 to complete the team score.
The Knights were led by Damon Schmalzriedt's round of 47, followed by scores of 55 and 59 from Bradley Donovan and Carter Richards.
Adam Hruby and Matt McCue rounded out the Knights' efforts with scores of 75 and 86, respectively.
Martin County West (7-1) travels to play in the Albert Lea Invite next Friday and Saturday at the Green Lea Golf Course in Albert Lea.
