Steen fires 4-hit shutout to lift MCW by St. Clair

ST. CLAIR - The Martin County West Mavericks plated three runs in the top of the fourth inning to ignite a 3-0 Valley Conference victory over the St. Clair Cyclones on Monday during softball action in St. Clair.

Shawna Dressen went 2-for-3 with a double and delivered one RBI for the Mavericks, while teammate Bailey Tish produced an RBI single during the fateful fourth frame.

Morgan Williamson went 3-for-4 with a triple to top Martin County West's 10-hit offensive performance.

Starting pitcher Rebecca Steen allowed four hits in seven shutout innings of work to earn the complete-game victory for the Mavericks. Steen recorded three strikeouts and issued only one base-on-balls.

Bailey Arndt started inside the chalked circle for the Cyclones, allowing three runs on 10 hits, while striking out three and walking two to absorb the loss.

Martin County West (4-2, 2-2 Valley) travels to Northrop today for a 4:30 p.m. conference against Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain.

St. Peter 14, Blue Earth Area 4 (5 innings) - The Saints pounded out a 14-4, five-inning victory over the Bucs during South Central Conference action Monday in St. Peter.

Janessa Jahnke doubled in two at-bats to generate two RBIs and scored a run to top Blue Earth Area's effort.

Whitney Pirsig delivered an RBI single for the Bucs, while Chelsea Owen generated an RBI via a fielder's choice.

Audrey McDonald singled and scored a run for BEA, while Bethany Olson and Kylie Ahl each walked and crossed the plate once.

Megan Wirtjes gave up 14 runs on 12 hits, walked two and struck out one in five innings of work to absorb the loss for the Bucs.

Blue Earth Area travels to defending Class AA state champion New Ulm today for a 5:30 p.m. conference game at Harman Park.
