To the Editor:
On March 10, the Martin County Humane Society hosted the second visit to Fairmont from the Minnesota Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP). The clinic was held at the Armory in Fairmont. On this visit, 14 dogs and 25 cats were either spayed or neutered.
We wish to thank Don and Pat Shaikowski and Don's Body Shop for generously paying the rental cost for the Armory.
For those of you not familiar with this program, this is a fully equipped surgical unit on wheels, with the surgeries being done by a licensed vet and staff for residents of Minnesota. We were lucky to get Dr. Sue and her staff for both visits to Fairmont. They are experienced, wonderful to work with, and great with pets. Their website, www.mnsnap.org, explains the program and required qualifications for pet owners.
The Humane Society will host another SNAP visit on June 16. It will be held at the Eagle's Club in Fairmont. This is a wonderful opportunity for pet owners who have not been able to get their pets altered.
For more information, please go to their website, click on "Pet Owners." This explains the income guidelines, surgical costs and registration. Our first two clinics filled up quite rapidly, so please sign up early.
