GHEC wins big; Maple River nips MCW in 2 OTs

TRUMAN - Josh Johanson and Logan Pytleski each scored 19 points to help the Granada-Huntley-East Chain Mustangs stampede to a 75-47 victory over the Cleveland Clippers during Valley Conference Showcase basketball action on Saturday in Truman.

Trent Stensland contributed 11 points to the Mustangs' winning ways, while teammate Konnor Kristenson supplied eight points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Dylan Petrowiak garnered 10 rebounds and distributed nine assists for GHEC, which connected on 29 of 53 shots from 2-point range. The Mustangs also made 3 of 10 shots from 3-point distance and only 8 of 25 at the free throw line.

Petrowiak's double-digit boardwork helped pace GHEC's 49-32 rebounding advantage.

Tommy Kraft produced a game-high 20 points to top Cleveland.

Granada-Huntley-East Chain (6-13) plays host to United South Central tonight at East Chain School.

Maple River 63, Martin County West 62 (2 OTs) - Jonah Breiter sank the game-winning free throw with 1.5 seconds remaining in the second overtime to help the Class 2A, No. 5-ranked Eagles fend off the Mavericks, 63-62, during Valley Conference Showcase action Saturday night in Truman.

Breiter and Zach Krengel each finished with 16 points to pace Maple River, while Jaron Denn - who was held scoreless in the opening half - netted 14 points on the game.

Austin Krumwiede and Kyle Brolsma each produced double-double performances to top MCW. Krumwiede scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed 11 boards to complement four assists, while Brolsma pulled down a game-best 15 rebounds to go with 13 points.

Mitch Sitzmann tallied 12 points and doled out three assists for the Mavericks, while Jake Faber chipped in 11 points.

MCW made 16 of 28 shots from 2-point range, 6 of 14 from behind the 3-point line and only 12 of 22 at the free throw line.

The Eagles connected on 14 of 31 shots from 2-point distance, 9 of 22 from the bonus arc and 8 of 13 at the charity stripe.

Martin County West (17-5) plays host to Worthington on Tuesday night in Sherburn, while Class 2A, No. 5-ranked Maple River (20-4) travels to Class 2A, No. 4-ranked St. Peter on Thursday night.

St. Clair 90, Truman/Martin Luther 67 - Ryan Kruse delivered a game-leading 23 points to steer the Cyclones to a 90-67 triumph over the BluejayKnights during Valley Conference Showcase action Saturday in Truman.

Austin Nagel and Mike Nett each scored 13 points for St. Clair, which hit 31 of 66 field goals and 13 of 22 free throws on the game.

Sam Geistfeld neared double-double territory by netting 21 points and nine rebounds to complement three steals to pace TML.

Alex Weihe delivered 13 points, Jeremy Smith supplied 10 points and four rebounds, while DaMarko Thomas hauled in 11 rebounds for the BluejayKnights.

TML hit 29 of 64 shots from the floor and only 6 of 17 at the line.

Truman/Martin Luther (12-11) travels to Madelia on Tuesday night, while St. Clair (17-7) hits the road to Springfield on Tuesday night.
