ATLANTIC, Iowa - Funeral services for Vernon D. Wohlenhaus, 92, long-time resident of Atlantic, Iowa, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at St. John's United Church of Christ in rural Lyman.

Vernon passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013. Visitation will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Roland Funeral Home, Atlantic.

He was born July 17, 1920, near Cumberland, Iowa. He graduated from Cumberland High School, attended two years at Grand Island Business College, worked in Lincoln, Neb. and in Baltimore, Md., for the Social Security Administration and the USDA and served with the Timberwolf 104th Army Division in WWII. He returned to Cass County, Iowa, to farm in 1946. He was joined in marriage with Maxine Elizabeth Retz on June 1, 1948. Vernon and his wife were farmers and livestock producers for over 60 years.

Vernon is survived by his daughters, Janice (Randall) Ratcliff of Ankeny, Iowa, Elizabeth (Douglas) Wohlenhaus Johanson of Winnebago, Minn.; grandchildren, Brian (Amy) Ratcliff, Benjamin Ratcliff, Jonathan Johanson and Kirsten Johanson; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Smith of Atlantic, and several nieces and nephews.

Vernon is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two brothers.
