FAIRMONT - Funeral services for Charles F. Sauder, 95, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Burial will be in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Slayton, Minn., at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont and will continue one hour prior to the time of service Friday at the church. Charles passed away Saturday morning, Dec. 29, 2012, at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Fairmont. The Lakeview Funeral Home of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Charles F. Sauder was born on May 3, 1917, to William and Martha (Hackbarth) Sauder in Iona, Minn. He was baptized at the home of his parents on Oct. 17, 1917, and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in March 1931, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fulda, Minn. Charles attended rural school in Murray County and St. Paul's Lutheran School in Fulda, Minn. On Feb. 2, 1942, Charles entered the armed services and received his basic training in Washington State and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre in Hawaii and Iwo Jima. On Nov. 2, 1945, Charles received his honorable discharge and returned home to Iona, Minn., where he farmed with his brother, Stanley.

On June 28, 1949, Charles was united in marriage to Ellen L. Huge at Avoca, Minn. They farmed in Avoca, Iona, and Holland, Minn. In 1957, they moved to Bellflower, Calif., where Charles worked at Douglas Aircraft. In July of 1962, he was employed as a school custodian in Slayton, Minn., and custodian at Trinity Lutheran Church of Slayton. In July of 1972, Charles became employed at the Jackson Public School as custodian until his retirement in 1982. Charles was also custodian of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jackson until September of 1988. In December of 1988, Charles and Ellen moved to Fairmont where they were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Fairmont.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ellen Sauder; children, Dale (Molly) Sauder, Raymond (Tammy) Sauder, Gary (Nancy) Sauder, Ruth (Robert J.) True, and Jean (Roman) Johnson; grandchildren, Sean Sauder, Dan (Kelly) Sauder, Megan (Eric) Ricard, David Schneider, Cara (Michael Nuara) Sauder, Casey Sauder, Shannon (John) Leysen, Bryan True, Derek (Kalli) True, Kirsten True and friend, Ben Rosol, Alex Johnson, Isaiah Johnson, and Emily Johnson; great-grandchildren, Gavin and Mara Ricard, and Wesley and Tracy Leysen; brother-in-law, Albert (Eleanor) Berglund; sister-in-law, Faye Sauder; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, William and Martha Sauder; son, Leslie Sauder; infant daughter, Karen Sauder; granddaughter, Tracy Lee Sauder; great-grandson, Charlie Sauder-Nuara; sisters, Louise Meyer, Marion Berglund and Florence Huge; brother, Stanley Sauder; two brothers-in-law, Doede Meyer and Lester Huge; and other family members.
